In her first world cup shooting competition, Danielle Marcotte didn’t disappoint, scoring a personal best 376 out of 400 in the air pistol event.
Marcotte, 15, was the youngest competitor at the championships and finished ranked 19th in the world.
“I think it was really fantastic,” said Jim Sias, president of the Yukon Shooting Federation.
“To shoot a personal best at a world cup is something. She hasn’t even shot that score in practice ever, so she definitely peaked at the right time.”
The championships were held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and Marcotte will be flying back on Friday.
Her scores were an impressive 92-94-96-94, which were each out of 100.
Marcotte averaged a 94 on the day, while the top shooter in the championships averaged a 96.7.
Sias said Marcotte has never been shooting better than she is presently.
“I know she is capable of that result, but I think to travel to a foreign country and go to your first world cup and shoot your personal best is really impressive,” he said.
“It is pretty much as big as it gets right now.”
