Twenty Royal Canadian Army cadets will graduate from the first Basic Marksmanship course at the Whitehorse Cadet Summer Training Centre this evening.
They have completed a three-week course focusing on marksmanship using the Daily 853C Air Rifle.
The reviewing officer for the parade will be Commodore JGV Tremblay, director General of Reserves and Cadets.
The cadets took advantage of the centre’s new outdoor range, shooting the Daisy Air Rifle almost every day.
They also participated in abseiling, swimming, a two-day field training exercise and summer biathlon.
The cadets are primarily from the three territories, with a few from Ontario. The course is an important first step on the road to becoming a member of the National Marksmanship team which competes in Bisley, England.
“The aim of the course is to produce excellent marksmen who can return to their local corps and assist as a team member in the marksmanship program there,“ said Capt. Tad Nicol, the course officer and platoon commander.
Those attending this evening’s event should be seated by 6:45 p.m.
