Fitness buffs will have the opportunity to workout for a worthy cause Saturday at the Canada Games Centre during the second Super Sweat of 2008.
The fitness session will be held in the Flexihall and is being put on by the City of Whitehorse Parks and Recreation Department as well as Better Bodies Cross Training Centre.
All proceeds raised at the Super Sweat will be donated to the Kids Recreation Fund.
“It’s a great cause,” said leisure program co-ordinator Kathryn Zrum. “I think it is pretty cool to know of or hear of kids that have gotten to do something that normally maybe wouldn’t get to because their families couldn’t afford the activity.”
Saturday’s Super Sweat will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. Because of the lengthy running time, participants must be 16 years of age or older.
However, despite the overall duration, the event is designed to be appealing to people of all ability levels.
Admission is $10 and pre-registration can be done at the reception desk at the Canada Games Centre.

The purpose of pre-registering is to make the event run more smoothly on Saturday. There is no deadline to register, but Zrum encourages people not to wait until the last minute to sign up.
One of the fun aspects to Super Sweat events is the variety of different fitness classes, which are each taught by a different instructor.
Saturday’s mini fitness classes will run roughly 10 to 15 minutes. The workouts will include Nia, Tae Bo, aerobics, strength training and cardio-core interval exercises.
Because of the Canada Games Centre only has 50 Yoga mats, participants are being encouraged to bring their own if it is possible.
Power Aid will be supplied for participants, courtesy of Whitehorse Beverages.

Additionally, there will be fitness and health related prizes given out on Saturday.

All participants in the Super Sweat will also receive a wristband, which gives them access to the different facilities in the Canada Games Centre for the remainder of the day.
One of the advantages of using the Flexihall is the amount of space that will be available, which Zrum said can accommodate approximately 250 people.
The last Super Sweat was held in February and Zrum said there was a real demand to host another one this year.
She said she hopes to raise $1,000 and is confident about being able to achieve that amount.
“As we all know, it’s a last minute community,” Zrum said. “We haven’t had a lot of people pre-register yet for the event, but we do ask them to do that and I think that they will come through.”
