Whitehorse RCMP busted two suspected drug dealers downtown Wednesday, seizing a quantity of cocaine and drug paraphernalia found in their vehicle.
Members of the Street Crime Reduction Team arrested a 43-year-old male and a 34-year-old female, charging them with possession for the purposes of trafficking and breaching a previous court order.
“Investigators found a variety of types of cocaine, crack and powder and a substance believed to be cocaine,“ Cpl. Glenn Ramsay of the Whitehorse detachment said today.
Police are not releasing the names of the accused until after they appear in court, expected this afternoon.
Ramsay also said police could not release the volume of drugs seized as tests are being conducted on a portion of the haul and “that analysis has yet to be finalized.“
In a separate incident, Ronald Ray Asuchuk of Whitehorse was arrested on an outstanding warrant for allegedly failing to comply with a court order.
Police took the 50-year-old into custody following a routine traffic stop whereby Asuchuk was found in the back seat of the vehicle.
According to Ramsay, all persons arrested are well known to police, and he credits the action to the RCMP’s Crime Reduction Strategy, which targets prolific drug and alcohol offenders.

It looks like someone’s come up with a workable strategy.
The drug scene in Whitehorse, per capita, is probably higher than Surrey,B.C.
It’s really been allowed to proliferate unencumbered by prosecution.
This type of action may help.
