PeeWee Mustangs honoured at awards banquet for great season
PeeWee Mustang players, coaches and family members were on hand to celebrate the team’s great season at a recent awards banquet.
A number of players were honoured at the event for their contribution throughout the 2007-08 season.
Among some of the guests included Midget aged players that have worked their way up to higher levels of hockey competition, but who were all involved at one point in the different stages of the Mustangs program.
Ted Stephens, Jaxton Glass and Drew Pettitt shared their experiences with this year’s PeeWee’s group and answered a few questions. Common messages were, “Have fun, stay active, get stronger and believe in yourselves.“
All 18 players from the team were given a medallion with their name and number to commemorate the outstanding season they just completed.
Plenty of individual awards were also handed out to deserving players.
Nigel Sinclair-Eckert finished with the Outstanding Goalie honours, while Matthew McCarthy’s great play won him the Top Defenseman award.
Top forward for his first year as a PeeWee went to Riley Pettitt, while Tyson Glass finished as the top scorer and top forward.
Glass scored 53 goals and added 64 assists over the course of the season. Glass also finished with the MVP award.
Top goal scorer went to Gage Preece, who finished with 56 goals and Mike Arnold won most sportmanlike.
Trevor Whynot was named the most inspirational player, while James McGrath was awarded with the most improved honour.
The rookie of the year award went to Jared Steinbach.
