Old Crow RCMP seized 10, 60-ounce bottles of hard liquor Sunday at the Old Crow airport.

By Whitehorse Star on September 29, 2015

Old Crow RCMP seized 10, 60-ounce bottles of hard liquor Sunday at the Old Crow airport.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing and transporting liquor in the community, 1,000 km north of Whitehorse.

The liquor is believed to have been imported for resale, the RCMP said.

They estimate the bottles’ value in Old Crow at about $6,000, or $10 per ounce.

Old Crow has been a dry community since 1991.

Possession, consumption, transportation and trade of alcohol are banned there.

The RCMP recovered six bottles of whiskey and four bottles of vodka.

Old Crow RCMP said the seizure was the result of information from the public and assistance from Dawson City RCMP.

The suspect is only described by the police as a “local male resident.”

He is scheduled to make a court appearance on Nov. 24.

They came up with $6,000 because if you could read, there was 10-60 ounce bottles that ads up to 10 times 60 = 600 times $10.00 per ounce equals $6,000.00 thank you.

They give names all the time. Even when charges are only pending. They give names when there are no charges at all so that is BS.

No "just sayin" they don't.
It might seem like names come out sooner, but in Whitehorse that is because court sits more often and once the charges are read in open court the name can be released. Often by the time the newspaper is printed the accused has already been in court so the 'news' of the crime and the name of the alleged criminal can be included in the one article.
But court only sits in Old Crow every two months, so it's a long wait till the accused has his charges read in court.

@Let's……. That is false. They give out peoples names all the time. I have no idea why, but it seems in "Culturally Sensitive" situations they don't. I think they should.

@ basic math

They're stating those calculations but doesn't mean they're true.

Let's explain this again Francias on Sep 30, 2015 at 3:14 pm

For about the hundredth time .... they are not protecting his identity. He can't be named until after he has appeared in court and the charges have been read in court. So you'll just have to wait till November 24. This has nothing to do with any real (or imaginary) cop connections ... it's a court procedure - nothing to do with the RCMP. Not sure how many times this needs to be explained ...

@Alex

They state that they sell it at $10/ounce. 60 ounces x 10 bottles x $10/ounce = $6000

$6000! How the heck did the RCMP come up with that number lol? I suppose they're trying to make it sound like a bigger bust than it really is.

Why are they protecting his identity? Cop connections?
