A Watson Lake man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with human remains found last Saturday in an industrial area near Watson Lake.

Travis Dennis, 22, is also charged with committing an indecent act on the remains.

Kirsten MacDonald, the chief coroner for the Yukon, had stated during a press conference Monday afternoon in Whitehorse that the remains would undergo a forensic autopsy at Vancouver General Hospital to confirm the identity of the deceased. That was scheduled to take place today but has been postponed until Friday.

There is a publication ban on the name of the deceased.

Dennis, who appeared in territorial court by phone on Tuesday afternoon, was taken into custody in Watson Lake.

He was scheduled to be flown to the capital and taken to the Whitehorse Correctional Centre that afternoon.

Dennis will appear in territorial court Aug. 12.

The Yukon RCMP major crimes unit continues to investigate the case.

I don't doubt that this young person will receive the severest slap on the wrist possible, and be back in the community to "heal" from his trauma.
Who is speaking for the victim here?

I too am surprised at all the thumbs down? I would really like them to take a minute and post their thoughts.
My thought is no one, no matter what she did or didn't do, deserves the end of life meted out to her. Thumbs downs would tend to indicate that others think otherwise.

A tough childhood = lower end of the sentence spectrum and rehabilitation?
Or, serious crime = justifiable punishment.

No, it is human nature as much as compassion. We've been dismembering our kind since day one and continue to do so despite how many silly laws we pass.

Yeah...Thomas...about that?
He would have to be sent to the US of Eh, and go through a trial, get convicted etc for that to happen.
Now up here?
We may never know about anything he may have been charged with as a wee brat under PET YOA.
If as a member of Canada's royalty, and an adult in the last four years...may have already had a culture pass via CCC section 718.2(e) allowing the opportunity for this murder he is alleged to have done?
Pure speculation on my part based on reality of everyday Canada that I admit.
One typically does not just start killing, a chain of events led to what is alleged. I can expect to read of a history I allude to, I'd love it if I was factually incorrect....remains to be seen.
Could be the toughest 2 years less a day of his life, cannot take him from his kin now can we?
S.O.P. around these parts, hopefully he has a stolen credit card too...then the full force of the law will hit.

I knew the victim and am horrified on what happened to him; nobody deserves to die like that especially in the company of "friends"; Rest in peace my friend hope you are dancing in the sky ❤️

Now that's messed up... had to be some serious rage to go to the trouble of dismembering someone. Perp needs to be locked away forever.
