For the first time in its 18-year history, the Yukon River Quest has reached capacity.

Yesterday, the field was filled when the 100th boat was registered for the 715-kilometre journey down the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City.

The 2016 Yukon River Quest will be held June 29 to July 3.

The 100th boat to register was a tandem kayak team out of Vancouver featuring Lisa Brougham and Mark Seiling, race president Harry Kern said.

The previous high for vessels was in 2008, when 89 teams took part.

The current field also includes a record 17 voyageur canoe teams.

“It feels pretty amazing,” Kern said of the record-setting field. “We’ve never done this before. There’s quite a buzz about this race again.”

The River Quest is the world’s longest annual canoe and kayak race.
