Yukon gymnasts captured multiple medals at the B.C. Gymnastics Championships in Surrey recently.
Yukon gymnasts captured multiple medals at the B.C. Gymnastics Championships in Surrey recently.
The gymnasts, out of the Polarettes Gymnastics Club in Whitehorse, brought home five gold medals and a B.C. Champion title.
According to a Sport Yukon press release, Alayna Mortimer, Jenna Henderson, Aubree Hombert, Layla Hombert, Taylor Kennedy, Olivia Vangel, Lily Witten, and Genevieve Lefebvre competed at the event, the largest of its kind in the province.
They were accompanied by coaches Ewan Campbell and Stephanie Caron.
Mortimer was named the Level 6 BC Champion in her age category, winning gold in both Vault and Beam and scoring fourth in her floor routine.
Hombert won gold in Level 6 Vault in her age category, placing ninth overall. Kennedy won gold in the Level 7 Uneven Bar in her age category.
“We couldn’t be more proud of this truly impressive feat,” said Kimberly Jones, Polarettes Gymnastics executive director.
“To see our team compete and succeed at this level and against the best of B.C. speaks to the dedication of the gymnasts and coaches. We are so excited for the wins and personal bests set by our team this past weekend.”
Among the personal bests and goals set during the competition, Lefebvre debuted brand new Level 7 routines at the event, placing fifth on Beam and 11th overall in her new category.
Henderson placed fourth on Beam and 11th overall in her Level 8 age category.
Vangel and Hombert both set personal best scores in Level 8 events.
