WOHL Wrap: Kilrich clinches fourth place with last-second win; Air North all tied up

Kilrich scored twice in the last 50 seconds to pull out a stunning 5-4 win over Tim Hortons in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey 'action' Sunday at the Canada Games Centre. Scott Palfreyman's second goal of the game, and game winner, was a buzzer-beater with one second left on the clock. Danny Johnson also scored twice for the lumber lads, a win which locked down fourth place in the season standings for Kilrich. Carl Cibart netted the other Kilrich goal. Responding for Tims were Ryan Martin, Chris Nash, Pat Shaw and Mike Blower.
Yukon Inn 5, Air North 5
Jeff Jensen banged home the winner off a frantic goal-mouth scramble with only 33 seconds left to earn Yukon Inn the tie. Jensen added another earlier goal, and Gary McKellar, Steve Arrell and Kevin Topping each potted one. Air North skated to their fifth straight tie on goals from Rick Gingell (two), Kerry Pettitt, Dustin Heffner and Derek Bilodeau.

Ben Kielb and Shawn Kinsella scored to lead the Rangers to the win in this nail-biting contest. Dave Wipf responded for Capri.
Saturday
Air North 6 Medicine Chest 6
Dustin Heffner tapped home a shorthanded goal with just over four minutes left to earn the aviators their fourth straight tie. Heffner added another, Dave Bakica netted a pair as well, and Bernie Heffner and Elgin Schwantz each landed one. Colin Nash scored a couple of dandies for MC. Doug Janzen chipped in a pair as well. Rounding out the scoring were Martin Laurie and Tom Ullyett.
Tim Hortons (26-9-1) is still leading the league with 53 points despite the stunning last-second loss to Kilrich. TA Firth, who lead most of the way, are right behind with 51 points (25-9-1) and the Yukon Inn rounds out the top three with 47 points (21-10-5).
Nate Clark continues to lead the scoring race with 85 points (43 goals, 42 assists) in only 28 games. Dustin Heffner of Air North flew into second place with a prolific week to hit the 70 point mark with a oddly even stat line (35 goals, 35 assists) in 35 games.
Willy Mckenna of Tim Horton's slips into third place and sits at 66 points (32 goals, 34 assists) in only 28 games. Among the regular goalies, Glen Traverse of Tim Hortons maintained his lead with a 3.08 GAA. Yukon Inn's Jim Antonissen remains in second with a 3.33 GAA. Firth's Paul Husband rounds out the top-three with a 3.79 GAA.
Traverse leads in goalie wins with 26, followed by Antonissen with 21 and Husband with 19 victories.
Two awards were handed out on the weekend. George Skookum of Air North was presented the 2021-22 Hogie Award for dedication to Oldtimers hockey. George usually drives in from Carmacks for games, and then drives home after games, and has done so for years.
Chris Carli of the Firth Rangers won the Most Sportsmanlike Player trophy for the 2021-22 season.This award is voted on by the players in the league, so it's quite an honour to be recognized for this.
The last two games of the regular season face off Wednesday. League playoffs start Saturday.
