WOHL Wrap: Air North battles to two ties; Firth still in first

The Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League continued its stretch run this past week with games on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League continued its stretch run this past week with games on Wednesday and Thursday.

Team general manager Joel Witten scored the game winner, his second goal of the game, with just over six minutes left to earn CapriCMW a 4-2 win over Medicine Chest in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action Thursday at the Canada Games Centre. Greg Lane and Al Hansen also scored in the win. Bill Bohmer and newcomer Josh Savill replied for the Chest chaps.

Firth 6 EDI 2

Shawn ‘Lucic’ Kinsella recorded a hat trick for the league leaders, Nate Clark continued to produce with two goals, and Ben Kielb contributed a single for Firth. Pete Johnston and Myles Dolphin did the damage for EDI.

Air North 6 Kilrich 6

Rick Gingell netted the game-tying goal with only 3:49 left to help Air North saw off with Kilrich in this seesaw affair.

Gingell added another goal, Dustin Heffner was flying with a hat trick, and Pete Mostyn got the other. Greg Charlie led the Kilrich charge with a hatty of his own, Scott Palfreyman popped a pair, and Stu MacMillan netted one.

Tim Hortons 5 Yukon Inn 3

Mike Gau scored twice, his second the game winner, and Chris Nash also potted a pair. Mike Blower sifted one in from the point for the other Timbits tally. Gary MacKellar, Steve Arrell and Jeff Jensen replied for the Inn.

Wednesday

Medicine Chest 12 Kilrich 4

Josh Savill wasted little time making his mark on the league as he collected three goals and three assists in the MC onslaught. Gus Morberg was a force as well, as he potted five goals, and Martin Laurie, Doug Janzen, Bill Bohmer and Colin Nash added one apiece for the victors. Greg Charlie netted two in defeat and Rick Moses and Sean McLeish each added one.

Tim Hortons 4 Firth 3

Tim’s CEO, COO and CFO Doug Terry scored the game winner midway through the final period to give the bagel boys the win in an exciting affair. Bernie Adilman added a pair on rebounds, and Willy McKenna got the other. Nate Clark with two, and Shawn Kinsella with a solo shot, replied for Firth.

Air North 4 CapriCMW 4

The Jets scored four times in the second period to earn a comeback tie with Capri. Dustin Heffner, Derek Bilodeau, Bernie Heffner and Kerry Pettitt did the damage for the Air crew. Greg Lane rifled home a couple for Capri, and Al Hansen and Ben Campbell rounded out their scoring.

TA Firth continues to lead the standings with 48 points (24-8). Tim Hortons is a close second with 47 points (23-8-1).

Yukon Inn rounds out the top three with 41 points (19-10-4).

Nate Clark is continuing his torrid pace as scoring leader with 83 points (41 goals, 42 assists) in only 26 games. Dustin Heffner is second with 60 points (30 goals, 30 assists) in 31 games. Willy McKenna of Tim Hortons is in third with 58 points (28 goals, 30 assists) in only 24 games.

Among the regular goalies, Glen Traverse of Tim Hortons maintained his lead with a 3.03 Goals Against Average.

Yukon Inn’s Jim Antonissen remains in second with a 3.39 GAA. Firth’s Paul Husband rounds out the top-three with a 3.88 GAA.

Traverse leads in goalie wins with 23, followed by Antonissen with 19 and Husband with 18 victories.
