WOHL Update: Talbot scores late to keep the Inn on top

Joel Talbot scored the game winner with a mere 50 seconds left on the clock as Yukon Inn downed EDI 5-4 in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action Sunday at Takhini Arena.

Joel Talbot scored the game winner with a mere 50 seconds left on the clock as Yukon Inn downed EDI 5-4 in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action Sunday at Takhini Arena. The Inn win kept them three points clear of Firth in the battle for first place in the season standings. Talbot added another in the victory, and Geordan Clark continued his tear with a hat trick.

Dustin Heffner (two), Ty Heffner and Greg Charlie responded for EDI.

CapriCMW 6, Firth Rangers 4

Capri continued their late-season march up the standings with another win. A trio of players potted two goals each in the triumph - Ed van Randen, Scott Palfreyman and Ron Billingsley. The Rangers put up a heroic effort with only six skaters, as Frank Aucoin (his 56th and 57th in 38 games!) scored twice, and Jeremy Germaine and Peter Johnston each netted one.

Kilrich 5, Air North 1

Arlo O'Riordan fired home a pair as Kilrich all-but-mathematically clinched 4th place in the season standings. Ben Kielb, Bruce Demchuk and Anthony Grottoli each sniped a single.

Kirk Price spoiled the shutout bid with 3:19 left in the game.

Medicine Chest 7, Titanium Storage 4

Rick Smith, Pat 'Messier' Shaw and Nate Clark pumped in a pair each, but it was goaltender Darryl Cann who was the difference as he was scintillatingly spectacular in net for MC. Kent Pigott also scored in the win.

Josh Savill led the Titanium gang with three goals, and Dale Gray got the other.

Thursday

Tim Hortons 5, Kilrich 4

Marcel 'Lapointe' Barrault sniped the game winner with less than four minutes remaining to seal the win. Tim's magnate Doug Terry tallied two for Tims, and other singles came off the sticks of Dave Wipf and Chris Lane. Stu MacMillan and Ben Kielb rifled home two apiece in defeat.

*EDI 6, Air North 5

Kevin Johnstone and Dustin Heffner scored a duo each in EDI's close victory. Greg Charlie and Gus Morberg also connected.

Scott Olafson dented the twine twice for the flyboys, and George Maratos, Dave White and Mike Sage landed one each.

Wednesday

Firth Rangers 8, Yukon Inn 1

Jeremy Germaine, Mervin Jacobsen and Frank Aucoin (ho-hum) each scored twice in a battle of the top two teams in the standings. Michel Dubois and Peter Johnston added a marker apiece.

Geordan Clark's goal staved off a shutout.

CapriCMW 8, Medicine Chest 6

Mike Gau led the CMW charge with two goals, and singles snipes came from Garrett Kuptana, Ron Billingsley, Kerry Pettitt, Scott Palfreyman, Michael Svoboda and Ed van Randen.

Shawn Kinsella fired home three in the loss, and Nate Clark, Pete Mostyn and Pat Shaw chipped in a goal each.

As mentioned, Yukon Inn lead the standings with 60 points (29-7-2), with Firth only three behind (26-7-5). EDI is a distant third with 45 points (21-14-3).

Also as mentioned, Firth's Frank Aucoin leads the league in goals (57) and points (92) while only having played 38 games.

CMW's Scott Palfreyman is a distant second with 67 points (41G, 26A).

Titanium's Josh Savill (42G, 21A) and EDI's Dustin Heffner (37G, 26A) are tied for third with 63 points apiece.

Among goalies, EDI's Paul Dainton holds his lead on the Goals Against Average with a 2.38 GAA.

Glen Traverse of the Inn is second with a 2.91 GAA.

Firth's Stacey Bowden is third with a 3.07 GAA.

Traverse leads the league in wins with 27.

Bowden is second with 20 wins, with Dainton right behind with 19.
