WOHL Update: Firth knocks off previously unbeaten Yukon Inn
Frank Aucoin led a balanced attack
Frank Aucoin led a balanced attack as six different Firth players scored to lead the Rangers to a 7-1 win over previously-unbeaten Yukon Inn in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action Sunday at Takhini Arena. Aucoin’s work paid out two goals, and also listed on the game policy were Michel Dubois, Colin Nash, Jeremy Germaine, Mervin Jacobsen and George Morgan.
Brad Hameister replied for the Inn gang.
Kilrich 1 Tim Hortons 1
Arlo O’Riordan banged home a rebound with only 1:35 on the clock to help Kilrich remain unbeaten in the early season.
Chris Lane scored for Tim’s.
Medicine Chest 8 CapriCMW 6
Each member of the Nate Clark-Shawn Kinsella-Ben Campbell line scored twice in the shootout victory. Matt King and Pete Mostyn added solo markers.
Mike Gau paced the green guys with two goals, and one each came from Peter Deer, Ron Billingsley, Garrett Kuptana and Scott Palfreyman.
EDI 3 Air North 0
Paul Dainton picked up the shutout for EDI, with goalscoring support from Kevin Johnstone (2) and Luke Sugden’s first as an oldtimer.
Thursday
Brad Hameister’s third goal of the first period stood up as the game winner as his Yukon Inn mates held off a furious comeback by Medicine Chest to record a 6-4 win in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action at Takhini Arena Thursday night. Geordan Clark, Lance Bevilacqua (empty netter) and Joe Talbot also netted goals for the Inn, who led 5-1 at one point.
Pete Mostyn, Shawn Kinsella, Derek Bilodeau and Rick Smith did the damage for the Chest.
Firth 4 Air North 3
Pete Johnston deflected home a point shot midway through the second period to insure Firth’s win. Frank Aucoin, Ryan Martin (who was all over the scoresheet) and Cody Wilkinson also scored in victory.
Kirk Price netted two and Stu Mackay (on a dandy solo rush) replied for Air North. Floyd McCormick was scintillating in net for the flyboys.
Wednesday
Titanium Storage 8 CapriCMW 3
Luke showed off his Cool Hands as Johnson netted two goals and added two helpers to lead Titanium to the victory. Team owner Rick Moses, Tyson Wirth, Bill Bohmer, Dale Gray, Francois Blanchette and even Ken Vickerman added singles in the win.
Scott Palfreyman popped a pair for Capri and Ed van Randen notched one.
EDI 4 Tim Hortons 1
Parked in his office at centre ice, Kevin Johnstone reeled in a couple of nice passes and converted them to goals to pace EDI. Greg Charlie and Dustin Heffner added singles. Peter Kirby scored for Tims to prevent EDI’s donut. Kilrich leads the early-season standings with eight points in five games. Four teams are tied with seven points, including previously unbeaten Yukon Inn.
Prolific scorer Nate Clark of the Medicine Chest is once again leading league scoring with 13 points in only three games. Titanium’s Josh Savill and Clark’s linemate Shawn Kinsella are hot on Clark’s heals with 12 points each.
Kilrich’s Gerald Tetlichi is the top goalie with three wins, two OT losses and a sparkling 1.80 GAA.
