It's well known that the worst lead in hockey is 7-1... Well, generally not, but Tim Hortons did their best (worst?) to try and prove that theorem as they withstood a sustained second period attack by Yukon Inn to hang on for a 7-6 win in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action Sunday at Takhini Arena.

The Timbits stormed out to a 7-1 lead early in the second period on goals by Josh Savill (three), Matt Johnson (two), Terry Joss and Joel Talbot. Brad Hameister scored late in the first period, and then Adam Lightfoot (two), Wade Hanna, Frank Aucoin and Pete Mostyn (on a penalty shot) tallied in the final frame to make it a nail-biter.

EDI 9 Titanium Storage 3

Dustin Heffner led the charge with four goals, Geoff Quinsey added a hat trick, and Willy McKenna and Michael Svoboda each notched one in the win. Chad Cowan, Doug Cote and Kyle Rolling replied for Titanium.

Kilrich 7 CapriCMW 3

Ryan Martin ripped home three goals, Shawn Kinsella added a pair, and Nate Clark and even Marcel Barrault scored singles for the Kilrich crew. Arlo O'Riordan netted two in defeat, and Kevin Johnstone got the other.

Medicine Chest 6 Firth Rangers 2

Two goals from scoring leader Jamie Cairns led the MC gang, and singles came from Michel Dubois, Jeremy Germaine, Phil MacDonald and Gerry Brandt. Wayne Potoroka and Gary Jerome replied for the Rangers.

EDI 6 CapriCMW 2

McKenna, fresh off a conditioning stint in B.C., scored a couple of dandy goals to lead EDI. Dustin Heffner, Gus Morberg, Ty Heffner and Pat Shaw (on a nifty deflection) also scored. For Capri, it was Brian Koop and Mark King doing the damage.

Kilrich 1 Yukon Inn 1

The teams scored within 1:17 of each other midway through the first and that was it for the scoring in this feisty affair. Aucoin scored for YI, and Ben Kielb for Kilrich. Kilrich goalie Jim Antonissen and the Inn's keeper Paul Husband were both scintillating in their respective cages.

Firth Rangers 6 Titanium Storage 3

Firth broke open a tight game by scoring the last four goals of the game. Jordan Borgford smoothed in a pair of goals, and solo successes came off the twigs of Peter Johnston, Devon Slade, Marcello Masone and George Morgan. Gary McKellar tickled the twine twice for the Titans, and owner Rick Moses netted one.

Air North 1 Tim Hortons 1

Newcomer Jason Steele scored on a breakaway with only 3.9 ticks on the clock to land a point for the aviators. Savill replied for Tims.

Thanks to their blowout-turned-nailbiter, Tim's has retaken the league lead with 14 points (6-1-2). The Chest is keeping it close with 13 points (6-2-1). EDI (5-3-1) and Kilrich (4-2-3) are tied for third with 11 points.

MC's Jamie Cairns has a narrow lead over Tim's Josh Savill in the scoring race, 22-21. Cairns (eight goals, 14 assists) continues to produce. Savil's scorching week (four goals for a season total of 15 goals and 6 apples) moved him into second place ahead of EDI's Gus Morberg (12 goals, eight assists).

Of note is Morberg's EDI running mate, Dustin Heffner, who's been holding a scorching stick of late, has moved into fourth in the scoring race with 13 goals and six assists. Heffner, with five goals this past week, only trails Morberg by one point.

Savill leads the WOHL Rocket Richard race with 15 snipes.

Cairns leads in helpers with 14.

Among goalies, Paul Dainton's dominance continues with a paltry 1.50 Goals Against Average.

Dainton is also tied with the Chest's Gerald Tetlichi with five wins on the season.

Tetlichi is second in GAA at an even 3.00.

Kilrich's Jim Antonisson sits third in GAA with a 3.44 average.

Antonisson is also tied with the Inn's Paul Husband for second in 'tender wins with four.
