The Price is right for Pepsi
On loan keeper Anthony Price was the rock on which the Air North ship was broken as Pepsi beat Air North Rangers 4-1 in over-35’s soccer action.
On loan keeper Anthony Price was the rock on which the Air North ship was broken as Pepsi beat Air North Rangers 4-1 in over-35’s soccer action.
Price was beaten early on by John ‘the beast’ Main, but from that moment on he was like a mama bear protecting her cubs, as Air North couldn’t get past him.
They threw everything they had at him, but were repeatedly denied.
Price came into the season as an unknown quality, but after performances like this one, you can see the Vancouver Whitecaps may come calling.
Spectators could visibly see the heads of the Air North players dip as their frustration began to set in and they ran out of ideas.
Pepsi captain Cirian Connolly inspired his team’s fightback scoring two goals and working hard for the cause. Mark Sebek continued his great start to the season with another goal, while Michael Zuccurini scored the other Pepsi goal.
Hume brace does for KBS
Miles Hume is relishing the responsibility of captaincy as his Chieftain side maintained their 100 per cent winning start to the season, with a 3-1 win over Klondike Business Solutions.
Hume grabbed two goals as his side again looked good value for the win.
KBS captain Phil Jackson will rue the chances they missed to make the game closer,
Jackson missed not only the target, but the entire goal as well, as his penalty went well wide.
Other players will be having nightmares over their failure to hit the target.
Chieftains’ bandwagon keeps rolling on and it is now down to opposing captains to work out how to beat this very well-organised side.
Mark Chandler is an early contender for MVP as he causes headaches to opposition teams with his intelligent play. You cannot begrudge his success as he plays with a smile on his face.
Chris Stacey picked up the other Chieftain goal, while Mick Mareau gave a glimpse into the impact he may have for his KBS team later in the season.
Funk the saviour
Derek Funk has just returned from living rough in the bush for six months, and his hunting instincts have been sharply honed.
This is shown in his three excellent goals for his team, Yukon Brewing, as they ran out 4-3 winners over Yukoninfo.com.
Info scored first when Justin Carre got the first of two goals, but when Funk, looking lean and hungry, caught sight of the goal he was shooting from the hip.
Hector Lang was always a thorn in the Yukoninfo.com side. His stamina and skill was too much for his opponents, and his goal shortly after halftime turned out to be the nail in Info’s coffin.
The men in orange tried hard to even things up, and when sub Ciran Connolly scored, there was a chance that they could even things up, but it wasn’t to be and the greatest pub team in the world deserved their win.
The Canada Games Centre was celebrating international day for older people, and it was nice to see Rapids legend John MacPhail watching the games.
