P&M Recycling beat out Dave’s Cleaning Crew in a lopsided 17-10 win at the Pepsi Softball Centre Saturday afternoon.
P&M Recyling got off to an early lead and stayed strong throughout the game, even as Dave’s Cleaning Crew mounted a comeback campaign late in the game.
“Our team was fantastic,” said P&M Recycling coach Craig Dempsey. “Batting has really improved over the season. They really came through and made some big plays.”
Dempsey’s team had a mix of experience out on the field.
“We had a great bunch of ball players, a number have been playing for a number of years and some that haven’t played at all,” he said. “They fit into the team nicely.”
Clutch catches from both P&M Recycling and Dave’s Cleaning Crew’s back catchers highlighted the U14 game.
All teams exhibited superior sportsmanship during the tournament, an umpire remarked as the U14 teams received their gold and silver medals. Coaches joked back and forth as they coached on first and third base with the bench.
“Good sportsmanship,” said Dempsey. “The weekend was fantastic. The teams all played really well.”
As the U14 teams battled it out on diamond one, the U12 teams of Office Supply Centre and Emco Corp. fought for gold on diamond three.
Office Supply Centre took home the win.
Eight teams competed in the minor softball territorial championships.
On the U12 side, bronze went to Marsh Lake Tents & Events, while M & M Food Market was fourth.
In the U14 category, Yukon College picked up bronze while Arctic Backhoe Services was fourth.
