In her first start at the International Biathlon Union Cup 2 in Ridnaun-Val Ridanna, Italy, Yukon native Nadia Moser finished in the bottom half of the pack.

The 19-year-old finished the 7.5-kilometre sprint course in 55th place after shooting nine for 10.

She finished three minutes and 20.9 seconds back from first.

The top Canadian woman at the race, Emma Lunder was 15th.

On day two of racing in Austria, she started the women’s 10K pursuit, but was lapped out of the race.

She got to shoot three out of four rounds, missing two in her first, and one each in the following two.

Moser will have two more chances this weekend to improve her ranking and shooting at the IBU Cup 3 in Obertilliach, Austria.

Without any natural snow, the athletes will be racing on an artificial loop.

Moser will start 47th in the women’s 15K individual race tomorrow.

The women’s 7.5K sprint race will take place Friday.

Moser, who lives and trains in Canmore, Alta., is one of the Yukon’s top biathletes currently on the racing circuit.

Last season she posted two top 25 individual performances – 19th in the sprint and 24th in the pursuit – while also finishing 10th in the team race as a youth at the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships in Romania last January.

Moser is a member of the 2022 Biathlon Canada team.
