Monster Enduro cyclists attack some of Whitehorse’s toughest trails

With a course made up of trails with names like Gnarwall, Easy Money and Straight F Down, mountain bikers who rode in the June 20th Cadence Cycle Monster Enduro faced a battle of wills.

That is, the will of their own, and of Grey Mountain’s.

In mountain bike terms, an enduro means untimed sections you ride up and downhill sections that are timed. For the Monster Enduro, there were three downhill sections on a course of more than 30 km.

A total of 16 riders participated in the event, which was created and organized by its namesake sponsor, Cadence Cycle.

Sixteen-year-old Cadence mechanic Cole Germain designed the course.

He also led the day’s plans and took care of all the little details that allow a successful event to happen.

Germain had pre-race help from Dean Eyre and volunteers from CMBC and Cycling Association of Yukon.

A huge thanks to Cameron Nelin and Tate Flanagan for flagging the course, and to Heather Leduc for marshalling.

Michelle Friesen did an amazing job as head of timing. Yukon Ski Patrol provided top-notch First Aid support.

Other shout-outs go to Nicole Bauberger, Trena Irving, Ariel Durant, Colin McCann, Abel Si Moussa, and Pierre and Janice Germain.

Of course, an event is nothing without participants! Thanks also to all the riders who bravely faced the Monster Enduro and survived, with smiles, memories and some bruises and blood as badges of honour.

Here are the results of the race.

  1. Rob McConnell 29:43
  2. Hudson Lucier 30:42
  3. Angus Endress 31:17
  4. Josh de la Salle 31:39
  5. James Mitchell 31:52
  6. Cole Germain 32:43
  7. Preston Blackie 33:51
  8. Tate Flanagan 37:04
  9. Michael Reilly 37:06
  10. Tristan Sparks 38:35
  11. Daniel Phillips-Freedman 38:38
  12. Glen Fielhaber 40:37
  13. Ross Philips 41:27
  14. Maude Molgat 43:44 (the sole female participant. Go Maude!)
  15. Jean-Paul Molgat 43:46
  16. Richard Campbell DNF
    (next time, Ricky)

The next enduro mountain bike event on the Yukon cycling calendar is the Midnight Dome Enduro on July 10 in Dawson City.

This one is special, though, as you don’t need to ride up: shuttles are included with your registration.
