His phone screensaver is a photo of Gump Worsley, the grizzled veteran goaltender who faced NHL shots without a mask over his 21-year career, and amassed 43 shutouts over that span. But Floyd McCormick has one up on his revered Gumper, as the slightly-less grizzled oldtimer veteran goaler posted two consecutive shutouts on the same night in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action Sunday at Takhini Arena. An exhaustive check of oldtimers records at the league home office in Carmacks could find no record of an oldtimer goaler ever accomplishing this feat.

McCormick started his evening with a 2-0 victory for his own team, Titanium Storage, over Yukon Inn; he followed that in the very next game by stopping everything while subbing for Tim Hortons in their 5-0 whitewashing of the Firth Rangers. Needless to say, but it will be said anyways, McCormick was stellar in both contests, stopping numerous breakaways and odd-man rushes in both games.

On the offensive side, Titanium got goals from Scott Legge and Derek Dee; Tim's goals were supplied by Terry Joss, Lester Balsillie (his first of the season!), Chris Carli, Patrick Isabelle and Doug Terry.

EDI 8, Kilrich 8

Well, we can't keep speaking of defence in this one, as the teams threw defending to the wind and played some 80s-era Oilers hockey. Dustin Heffner scored with a mere four ticks on the clock to salvage a point for EDI, Heffner added another earlier goal, Willy McKenna led the charge again with four goals, and singles came from Gus Morberg and Derek Bilodeau. Kilrich sniper Nate Clark rifled home four goals, Ryan Martin added a hatty, and Shawn Kinsella got the other.

Medicine Chest 5, Air North 1

Geordan Clark recorded his second straight four-goal game to pace MC, and Jeremy Germaine potted the other in the win. Ron Billingsley spoiled the shutout for the airmen.

Thursday

Medicine Chest 6, Tim Hortons 5

As mentioned above, Geordan Clark netted four goals, including the winner on the power play with 54 seconds left. Mike Gau scored the other two in the win. Tim's was led by Josh Savill's two goals, and one apiece from Matt Johnson, Bernie Adilman and Dave Wipf.

Air North 4, Titanium Storage 3

Ed van Randen landed the winner midway through the second period, and the other three Air goals came courtesy of Ron Billingsley. Titans to connect were Chad Cowan, Kerry Pettitt and Gary McKellar.

Wednesday

Kilrich 5, Firth 4

Shawn Kinsella scored with 45 seconds left, his third of the game, to cement the two points for the builder boys. Chris Nash and Mark Pike (!) also tallied in the win. Four different Rangers collected goals – Marcello Masone, George Morgan, Gary Jerome and Devon Slade.

EDI leads the standings with 56 points (27-8-2). Medicine Chest is second with 53 (26-9-1), followed by Tim Horton's with 48 points (21-11-6).

The Chest's Jamie Cairns continues to sit atop the scoring race with 81 points (35 goals, 46 assists) in only 31 games. Timmy's Josh Savill sits second with 72 points (46 goals, 26 assists) in 38 games. EDI's Willie McKenna, showing where Gavin gets it from lately, has moved into third in the scoring derby with 68 points (36 goals, 32 assists) in only 26 games.

Tim's Paul Dainton maintains his Goals Against Average lead at 1.57 per game. The Chest's Gerald Tetlichi is second with a 3.55 GAA. The Inn's Paul Husband is third at 3.91.

Tetlichi leads in goalie wins with 23. Kilrich's Jim Antonisson is second with 17. EDI's Stacy Bowden continues her strong season with 15 wins.
