KOS win for the first time
After 11 games and 440 minutes of soccer, Klondike Office Systems finally got their first win of the season.
After 11 games and 440 minutes of soccer, Klondike Office Systems finally got their first win of the season.
Skipper Phil Jackson has been close to despair, with tears streaming down his face after many of the games, but on Saturday he was able to go home and celebrate after his team pulled off a 5-4 win over Driving Force.
The game was a classic, with both teams abandoning all thought of defence as they went for the win.
Sandy Gross was at the heart of all things for KOS, as he put the fear of god into Driving Force every time he was on the ball. His beard may weigh more than him, which helped him dance around challenges and float towards the goal.
Neither team could establish and keep the lead for long, even when KOS went 4-3 up with a couple of minutes to play. But Driving Force were able to equalize.
The winner came in bizarre circumstances, with Driving Force keeper Jan Aalt Van Den Horne out of the net struggling with a hamstring injury. Gross shot for glory, but missed by a country mile, however, Mick Moreau was able to pick up the wayward shot to slot home to the cheers of the crowd.
Walchuk’s goals help
Chieftain win
A game that was grand on quality was won by Chieftain, who were the better team, although Yukoninfo.com were able to keep them honest for much of the game.
Chieftain had Jesse Walchuk to thank for their early lead. He smashed the first one in and then there was a delicate rabona for the second.
Yukoninfo.com came back into the game with goals from Justin Carre, one-legged pirate Danny Macdonald, and Jan Aalt van den Hoorn, but they just couldn’t match the energy that Chieftain put into the game.
The quick one-twos are hard to defend and with Mark Chandler spearheading the attack the Yukoninfo.com defence were under constant threat.
If it wasn’t for Stu Knack in the Info goal, the score could have been a lot higher.
Chandler got a goal, as did Captain Miles Hume and Guilano Rayo rounding out the scoring as Chieftain won 6-3, as they maintained their lead in the league.
For Yukoninfo their inconsistency is their downfall, if they could put a string of results together, they may have a part to play in proceedings.
All’s fair in love and war
The final game of the morning between Yukon Brewing and Pepsi was a thrilling affair, with the result in the balance until almost the final kick of the game.
Fabian Glyka picked up the first goal of the game, as he deceived Pepsi goalie George Maratos, before Ciaran Connolly scored a scorching goal to level things up.
The game was up for grabs, so the teams were pouring their heart and soul into winning the game.
Derek Funk scored two more goals for his team in what is turning out to be a fine season for him, with Glyka getting the other for Yukon Brewing.
Pepsi got back into the game as Huy Nguyen and Michael Zuccarini got goals to set up a grandstand finish.
With the clock ticking down, it looked like Yukon Brewing would hold on, until Graham White steered the ball in the net to secure a point for Pepsi and deny the Brew all three, with the game finishing 4-4.
