Klondikers dominate at pre-Greenland table tennis trial

The road to Greenland began in earnest for the Yukon table tennis team last weekend.

The first trial event aimed at selecting a team for the 2016 Arctic Winter Games in Nuuk – Greenland’s capital – was dominated by a small group of players from Dawson City.

In the juvenile girls division, Emily Gaw took first place with a victory over Feng Ming Huang: 12-10, 11-9, 11-6.

Additionally, Dawsonites Ethan Gaw and Sam Crocker took first and second place in the junior boys division, with the undefeated Gaw taking down Crocker in the final: 11-8, 11-4, 10-12 and 11-8.

Thomas Brenner was third, while Greg Murdoch was fourth. Other participants in this division were Thomas Moore, Jacob Caley and Caleb Verdonk.

With only one boy entered in the juvenile division, Arcel Siosan took top spot.

Finally, in the junior girls division, Ashley Harris placed first with a 3-0 record, while Grace-Anne Janssen took second with a 2-1 record.

Kelcy Armstrong placed third with a record of 1-2.
