Kilrich takes a bite out of Tim Hortons to claim top spot in oldtimers hockey

Kilrich took over first place in the crowded Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey standings with a resounding 7-1 win over Tim Hortons Sunday at Takhini Arena.

Kilrich took over first place in the crowded Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey standings with a resounding 7-1 win over Tim Hortons Sunday at Takhini Arena. Four teams are within two points of top spot in the standings, making for some heart-pounding games of late.

But it was Kilrich doing the pounding on Sunday, as they were led by truculent rearguard Duane Purych with two goals and two assists. Single scores came from Nate Clark, Shawn Kinsella, Ryan Martin, Marcel Barrault and Danny Horassi. Doug Terry replied for the Timbits.

EDI 5, Air North 3

Gus Morberg scored two and Dustin Heffner one as the duo now share the league goalscoring race at 18. Other EDI marksmen were Vernon Asp and Willy McKenna. Air snipes came from Ed van Randen and Colin Nash, both on the power play, and Dane Frieburger.

Firth 6, Yukon Inn 3

Gary Jerome netted two for the Rangers, Peter Johnston got the winner, and Jordan Borgford, Kevin Topping and Devon Slade also dented the mesh. Inn scorers were Adam Lightfoot with a pair, and Frank Aucoin.

Medicine Chest 9, CapriCMW 1

Ron Sumanik, Phil MacDonald and Michel Dubois all recorded two goals in the win, and one each came off the twigs of Jeremy Germaine, Mike Gau and Jamie Cairns. Dan Johnson spoiled the shutout for Capri.

Wednesday

EDI 2, Tim Hortons 1

Willy McKenna netted both for EDI in a hard fought game that ended with a frantic scramble in front of the EDI net. Bernie Adilman replied for Tims.

CapriCMW 6, Titanium Storage 6

This was even-Steven throughout as each team scored four goals in the first period and two in the second. Kevin Johnstone and Martin Lawrie each potted a pair for Capri, and singles came from Arlo O’Riordan and Dave Bakica.

Titanium tallies came from Scott Palfreyman with a pair, and one apiece from Gary MacKellar, Chad Cowan, Kyle Rolling and Derek Dee.
