Soccer action is going fast and furious at the Canada Games Centre.

In the first Senior Metro Soccer League action of the season last Friday, Yukon Brewing beat ORC Tree Servicing 3-1 while Acme Labs tied The Soccer Shoppe 3-3.

Tristan Olynyk led the way for Yukon Brewing, scoring twice, while Rob Borud added a single in the win.

Lauren Bradley scored for ORC.

Goal scorers for Acme included Alejandro Pulido (2) and Kyle Risby, while Ted Kim (2) and Harrison Kwok replied for The Soccer Shoppe.

“It was a good turnout for the first week and good competitive games,” said Pulido, the league’s president.

“Nice to see some new faces and some returning faces of players that haven’t played in a while.”

Other indoor soccer leagues in the Yukon capital include recreational and competitive co-ed leagues with games held weeknights, and the Whitehorse Rapids oldtimer men’s league, which plays Saturday mornings.

In Newfoundland yesterday, the U-16 Yukon Strikers girls were shut out in their second straight match at the national club championships in Mount Pearl.

After losing 10-0 to Alberta Wednesday, the Strikers failed to score in a subsequent 8-0 loss to Manitoba.

FC Northwest’s Hailey Lavarias scored a hat trick in the win.

Despite the losses, coach Jake Hanson said the Strikers girls are playing some good soccer.

“Small bench and big hearts,” he said in an email to the Star.

“These girls from the territory are impressing the heck out of me really ... tough, confident, composed.”

The girls have an off day today and will take on New Brunswick tomorrow in consolation action.

In Charlottetown, the U-14 boys (0-2) will square off with Saskatchewan in a consolation game Saturday.
