BUSY WEEKEND – Huskies goalie Nigel Charlie makes a save against the Wolfpack.

Down three games to none against their Yellowknife rivals Sunday, the Whitehorse Novice Junior Huskies rallied to win the series finale in honour an injured teammate.
Zander Underhill sniped the game-winner in a shootout and goalie Nigel Charlie stopped two of four Yellowknife Novice Wolfpack shooters to give Whitehorse a 4-3 win at Takhini Arena.
Underhill said he scored the winner in honour of injured teammate Kaelen Halowaty, who broke his leg during a game Saturday morning.
Out killing a penalty in the second game of the four-game series, Halowaty appeared to fall harmlessly after a blue-line collision.
The crash resulted in a broken leg, however, and effectively ended the youngster’s season.
Before Sunday’s finale, the injured scorer – sporting a full cast – entered the dressing room in a wheelchair.
The team of seven-, eight- and nine-year-olds went on to use Halowaty’s injury as inspiration, dedicating Sunday’s contest to their friend.
Gavin McKenna scored twice and Underhill added a single in regular time to push the 3-3 game to a shootout.
Then each of McKenna, Jase Johnstone, Chayce Tuton and Underhill converted in the breakaway contest, as Huskies shooters went four-for-five.
The game ensured the series ended on a high note for the host team, despite an overall record of 1-3.
The series kicked off Friday night, and the Huskies got off to a rocky start, losing 7-3.
Johnstone, Taylor Bierlmeier and Conner LaBar had goals for the host team, but it wouldn’t be enough against the smooth-skating Wolfpack.
Saturday morning’s rematch didn’t go any better, as the Huskies started slow en route to a 11-4 loss.
Halowaty’s mid-game injury seemed to further deflate his teammates, who got goals from McKenna, Bierlmeier and Johnstone.
Later that night, the Huskies lost a much closer contest 5-3, as the Wolfpack got some stellar goaltending late in the third.
Johnstone, Jaxon Tentrees and McKenna all netted goals for the Yukon club in that game.
Last month, the young Huskies team travelled to Enderby, B.C., for a tournament in which they won silver after dropping the final 4-3 to the West Kelowna North Stars.
The squad was originally put together for the Air North Challenge in October. The team travelled to Yellowknife, where they finished 2-2 against the rival Wolfpack.
Other players on the Junior Huskies roster include: Nash Holmes, Kaleb Parry, Keaton MacIntosh, Kayden Smith, Tyson Matthews and Landon Cowper.
