Paul Simon’s “Get on the bus, Gus” lyrics were taken to heart by Mr. Morberg on Sunday, as the power forward hopped on the oldtimers express and dished out six assists in EDI’s 8-4 win over Air North in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action at Takhini Arena. Morberg set up all four of Willy McKenna’s goals, Vernon Asp added two, and each potting one were Dan van der Linden and Pat Shaw. Ron Billingsley netted two for the Air men, and Doug Janzen and Mike Hawkins got the others.
Tim Hortons 4, Kilrich 4
Josh Savill scored with two minutes left to salvage the tie for Tim’s after they coughed up a 3-1 lead. Tim Turner-Davis, Doug Terry and guest skater Trevor Ellis also scored. For Kilrich, it was Ben Kielb with a pair, and Shawn Kinsella and Nate Clark with singles.
CapriCMW 7, Medicine Chest 5
Guest player Luke Johnson netted the hat trick for Capri, and Brian Koop, Kevin Johnstone (four helpers as well), Dale Gray and Trevor Ellis (busy guy!) scored as well. MC was paced by Jeremy Germaine’s two goals, and one apiece from Michel Dubois, Jamie Cairns and Scott Olafson.
Yukon Inn 4, Firth 1
Four different skaters powered the Inn to the win - Greg Lane, Chris Lane, Wade Hanna and Steve Arrell. Eric Chalmers replied for the Rangers.
Thursday
Medicine Chest 9, Yukon Inn 0
Mervin Jacobsen, Jamie Cairns, Geordan Clark and Gerry Brandt each netted two goals as MC blanked the Inn crew. Phil MacDonald netted the other and sub goalie Stacey Bowden recorded the shutout.
Firth Rangers 9, Air North 6
Defence was an offensive word in this match as Devon Slade’s field goal was the difference for the Rangers. Jordan Borgford added a safety, and Eric Chalmers, George Morgan, Jeff Jensen and Mark Wierda had singles. Mike Jim popped a pair for Air, and one each came from Brian Currie, Dane Frieburger, Mike Hawkins (!) and Dave White.
Wednesday
EDI 3, Tim Hortons 1
Dan van der Linden led the charge in this tight-checking affair with a park of markers for EDI, and Willy McKenna netted the other. Chris Carli replied for Tims.
Titanium Storage 2, CapriCMW 2
Chad Cowan popped the water bottle with only 5:02 on the clock to help the Titans earn a point. Gary MacKellar collected the other. For Capri, it was Arlo O’Riordan and Kevin Johnstone with the goals.
EDI (28-8-2 – 58 points) maintains its three point lead over Medicine Chest (27-10-1– 55 points).
The Chest’s Jamie Cairns maintains his iron grip on the scoring lead with 88 points (38 goals, 50 assists) in only 33 games.
Firth’s Devon Slade’s 48 goals lead the league.
Cairn’s 50 assists leads the apple parade.
Among goalies, Timmy’s Paul Dainton maintains his minuscule 1.57 Goals Against Average.
The Chest’s Tetlichi continues to lead in goalie wins with 24.
EDI’s Stacy Bowden rounds out the top three with 16 wins to her credit.
