Perfect weather and another top notch venue highlighted Wednesday's orienteering meet, which was held for the first-time at the Wolf Creek campground.
The Yukon Orienteering Association hosted the event, which attracted 47 orienteerers out to participate.
"We get a good turnout," said Hilary Wilkinson, who helped organize the event. "People are enthusiastic. They enjoy getting out and getting some fresh air and some of them enjoy the competitive side of it, between each other or just for themselves."
Orienteering is a sport that combines both racing and navigation. Competitors use a topographic map, which is given to them just before the start of the race.
The maps at the Wednesday night meets cost $5 for members of the Yukon Orienteering Association. Non members must purchase a day membership for $5, in addition to the map fee.
This past meet also gave participants the option of renting an Sportident timer for an additional $2.
One advantage to renting the sportident is that it allows a participant to receive a print out of his or her times between each control point.
Without the sportident a competitor would just receive his or her start and finish times.
Wednesday's meet featured four courses in total. The long advanced course was won by Afan Jones with a time of 49.46, while Colin Abbott wasn't too far off, coming in at 56.07. Pam James rounded out the top three with a time of 67.25.
The long advance featured 11 check points and was approximately 4.3-km.
Barbara Scheck took top honours in the short advance course, completing the race with her time of 63.54.
Ten minutes later, Grant Abbott came in to finish in the second spot, while third place ended up going to Dave Sharp with his time of 91.35.
The Intermediate course saw the duo of Justine Scheck and Tim Peabow place first overall with their time of 60.13.
The team of Anna Janowicz and Morgan Paul finished with the fastest time for the Novice course at 22.22. Second place went to Bea Felker, Matthew and Haley Brag, who were just a little more than four minutes behind Janowicz and Paul's finish. Maura Glenn and Elvira Knaack came in at 34.21 to finish third.
