The goals came fast and furious at the "The 55 Game" at Takhini Arena Saturday.

The game was held in honour of Travis Adams, who passed away in a tragic vehicle crash in 2020.

Donations were also raised for the Yukon Food Bank.

Nuway Crushing started the donations with an initial $10,000 contribution, and matched up to another $10,000 raised at the The 55 Game.

The game featured a team of young elite Yukon hockey players against a more senior team, the Senior Selects.

The high-scoring affair ended up 15-8 for the young guns.

Gavin McKenna, number one overall pick of the Medicine Hat Tiger of the Western Hockey League, racked up five goals and four assists.

"Lots of fun. Fun to play in front of a hometown crowd here. I haven't played here for a couple years now, so to finally get to play in front of my family and friends is good. To play with some of my friends and against some others is super fun. And obviously for a really good cause, it feels great."

McKenna said he always looks forward to coming back for the holidays.

"It's always fun to be able to come home for that short period and see my family at Christmas."

Of his incredibly productive night, McKenna understated , "Not bad. Kinda flip-flopped with some guys on the lines there. I was just clicking with them, so it was lots of fun."

McKenna headed back to Medicine Hat Dec. 26 to play his next game with the Tigers on Dec. 27.

Of his season with the Tigers, McKenna said, "We have a really good team, so it's lots of fun."

McKenna is currently fourth in scoring for the Tigers with 11 goals and 22 assists in 27 games, although he was leading the team before he left for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in P.E.I. in November.

McKenna added, "Just really happy to be here and to do it for Travis and for the food bank. It means a lot to give back to the community. It's a hockey town, so, to do it in a hockey game, it's pretty cool, for sure."

Mckenna's mom, Krystal McKenna, attended the game in her Tigers' jersey.

"It was fun. So nice to see everybody here again. It's really exciting."

When asked what she thought of her son's performance, Mckenna replied, tongue firmly in cheek, "He did all right."

McKenna said it's "amazing" to have her son back in town.

"It makes my heart very happy to have him home."

One of the young prospects, Ashton Underhill, said the game was "awesome. I had so much fun doing it. It was my second year doing it."

Underhill tallied a couple of assists in the game.

"It was pretty good but I had that bet going with my younger brother (Zander) about whoever scored first has to shave their moustache. That was stressing me out a bit but everything turned out great."

As a matter of fact, neither Underhill scored, so the moustaches are safe – for now.

Underhill added, "It's so special to be a part of, for sure. Me knowing Trav, growing up with him, is something special. Great that we donate all the money to charity, too. It's awesome. It's great to see the whole community come out."

Underhill's brother Zander said the game "was good. Lots of intensity. There was lots of good players coming back for this game. It was a big thing for the community. Nice to play in."

Zander played one shift with McKenna.

"He's a phenomenal player. It's crazy, the things he does."

Zander played in the game last year as well, but indicated the crowd was even bigger this year.

"It looked like there was so many people. It's good to play in this. I've never seen a crowd like this before. It's actually very cool."

Zander added, "It's great for the community to come out and support this hockey game."
