Gladish holding onto shrinking Yukon Ultra lead

Jessie Gladish continues to hold onto her lead at the Montagne Yukon Arctic Ultra.

Jessie Gladish continues to hold onto her lead at the Montagne Yukon Arctic Ultra.

Gladish, riding a fat bike, checked into Carmacks at 6:41 a.m. this morning. As of noon today, she was at mile 184.8.

Matt Weighman, of Banchory, Scotland, is giving Gladish a run for her money. He is listed at mile 165.1 and is travelling on foot. Weighman was nearly 40 miles behind Gladish yesterday.

Gareth Hardcastle of Osestry, England is in third at mile 157.3. Hardcastle is also travelling on foot.

Laura Trentani of Brovello-Carpugnino, Italy, on foot, is close behind in fourth at mile 155.5.

Adding flair to this international field is Tommy Chen of Taipei, Taiwan, who is travelling on foot and is currently at mile 150.8.

All of the top five athletes are competing in the 430-mile race.

Chad Barber of Hunstville, Ont. won the 100 mile race to Braeburn, reaching there Sunday at 12:45 p.m.

Chen Lun-Chiang of New Taipei City, Taiwan finished first in the marathon in a time of 4:29 on Saturday.

The Star will have another update, as well as a photo spread on the Ultra, in tomorrow's paper.
