You never know who you’ll meet in the hot tub.
You never know who you’ll meet in the hot tub. For the Glacier Bears competing at the Kamloops Classic in B.C last weekend, it was the BC Lions football team.
The swim team, which was competing at a three-day swim meet met some players of the football team who were in town for a training camp.
The Glacier Bears offered a few tips to the football players and challenged them to a fun race in the leisure pool.
“Even the little swimmers were better,” laughed coach Malwina Bukszowana.
It was a successful meet for the Glacier Bears with 11 A-final swims and 16 B-final swims.
Two new club records were set. Hannah Kingscote swam to a third place in the 50-metre backstroke with a time of 32:95, while Luke Bakica placed seventh in the 50-metre breaststroke with a time of 34:74.
No more swimmers qualified for age group nationals at this meet, but Kingscote and Adrian Robinson are both milliseconds away in the 50-metre butterfly.
“Hannah proved again that her underwater fly kicks off the wall are very fast. She barely has anybody able to keep up with her off the walls,” said Bukszowana. “She is coming back home with a lot of motivation.”
They’ll have one last shot to qualify at the BC AAA Championships in July.
Sisters Cassis and Rennes Lindsay have already qualified for age group nationals.
Many of the 10 Glacier Bears swam to personal bests, which coach Bukszowana credits to their hard work in practices paying off.
“Besides the good swims and the finals ... they are coming back with some swimming experience, some fun memories from on deck and some excitement after talking to – as they described it – ‘massive’ BC Lions players,” said Bukszowana.
