Doyle’s screamer seals the win

Stephen Doyle is a virtuoso performer.

Stephen Doyle is a virtuoso performer. He can play in most positions, but scoring seems to be his achilles hee. However on Saturday he smashed the ball in from close to the halfway line to help Pespi win 3-2 and condem Air North Rangers to a frustrating loss.

Air North seemed to be in control of the game and were cruising after goals from Justin Carre and Adriano Lamberti, but miscommunication between defenders gave chances to the insatiable Franklin Fru, who increased his lead in the golden boot race and Jonathan Hawkins, who both scored.

Air North skipper Iain Breckenridge must have been thinking that he was a bad person in a previous life, as his luck deserted him in a time when he needed all he could get.

Danny Macdonald, the Pepsi coach, must be on the Santa’s nice list, as his team climbed to the top of the tree going into the Christmas season.

Hamilton bulldozes his
way to success

Michael Hamilton is enjoying a very productive first season in the league. His style of play suits the ‘up and at ’em’ mentality of his Yukon Brewing team and his goal was more about commitment than prowess as he powered past players to score.

The determination of this Yukon Brewing team to track back, support teammates and generally put in 150 per cent effort all the time is phenomenal. It puts opponents on the back foot from the start of the game, and continues to the very last touch of the ball.

This game was close all the way through as Yukoninfo.com battered the Brewing defence, but didn’t get much joy apart from goals from Michael Zuccarini and Goher Hafeez.

The Brew seized their chances when they came, as Michael Bores and Peter Mather added to Hamilton’s strike to run out 3-2 winners, and to confound predictions that they would struggle this year.

Chieftain revival continues

Chieftain looked dead and buried after the first few games of the season. They lacked a purpose and a style for them to be successful, but they are a much different proposition now as they beat league leaders Driving Force 3-2 in the final game of the day.

Skipper Kruno Kunovic has transformed his side from zero to heroes. Val Shapoval (one goal), is the gift that keeps giving, as he never stops running. Saddled with superstar Matt Hosford (two goals), they were able to pull off a stunning win.

Driving Force were undone by their full bench, as they were unable to maintain a rhythm for the players to follow.

Chris McCutcheon and Pat Zuccarini got a goal each, as they searched for an answer to the questions thrown at them, but as the earlier games showed, one goal separation was all a team needed to take home the three points, as Chieftain managed to get across the line.
