In Sunday's Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League action, Air North bounced back from a Thursday loss with a 4-1 victory over Firth. Jason Steele and Mike Sage led the air attack with a goal and an apple each. Bruce Demchuk and Wes Marsh chipped in with singles and slick playmaker Brian Currie contributed two assists to the airmen's cause. Kevin Topping scored Firth's lone goal.
Yukon Inn 6, Medicine Chest 2
The Lane boys checked in for the Inn. Greg Lane registered two goals and two assists, and Chris Lane tallied one goal and one assist. Last season's leading scorer in the WOHL, Frank Aucoin, also contributed a goal and an assist. Mike Blower brought two apples to the table for the Inn.
Mervin Jacobson and Mike Gau replied for the Chest.
Tim Horton's 9, EDI 1
Tim Horton's dominated EDI In the early game. Terry Joss led the goal scoring with a hatty. Josh Savill scored a game-high five points on two goals and three assists. Matt Johnson tallied one goal and three assists. David Wipf and Doug Terry tallied a goal and two assists each. Wipf also led the Timmy's penalty parade (two minutes). Stu MacMillan contributed a goal and a helper and Joel Talbot added two assists. Dustin Heffner scored the lone goal for EDI.
Thursday
Goalie Paul Dainton did it all for Tim Hortons in their 5-0 win over the Firth Rangers in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action Thursday at Takhini Arena. Dainton delivered the shutout, and he also dished a dandy three-line pass to spring teammate Joel Talbot for a breakaway goal. Chris Carli collected his first two taters of the season, and other scorers were Terry Joss and Josh Savil.
Medicine Chest 4, Air North 2
Four different MC players connected in their balanced attack - Michel Dubois, Mike Gau, Phil MacDonald and Peter Deer. Mike Sage sifted home both for the fly guys.
Wednesday
Titanium Storage 8, Yukon Inn 5
Kyle was Rolling with a pair of goals for the Titans and CEO Rick Moses added two himself. Rounding out the balanced attacked were Lance Bevilacqua, Russ McDiarmid, Derek Dee and Gary McKellar. Newcomer Adam Lightfoot popped a pair for the Inn, and one apiece came off the sticks of Peter Mostyn, Mike Blower and Frank Aucoin.
Kilrich 5 EDI 5
Shawn Kinsella tied the game for Kilrich with only 3:24 on the clock, as his team overcame five (!) goals by EDI's Gus Morberg. Others to nail goals for Kilrich were Nate Clark, Mark Bowen, Chris Nash and Marty O'Hagain.
Tim Horton's on top
Tim Horton's leads the early-season standings with a 4-1-1 record, good for nine points.
Titanium Storage and the Medicine Chest occupy second spot with seven points on identical 3-2-1 records.
Yukon Inn, Air North and Kilrich are next with six points each.
Titanium tops the league in goal scoring with 33 goals, although they've given up 28.
Speaking of 28, that's how many goals points league leader Tim's has tallied so far.
The Inn has registered 26 goals of their own.
Defensively, Tim's has been very stingy so far, only allowing 11 goals through six games.
The Inn also has a great goals for and against ratio, only giving up 16 thus far.
Kilrich is also on the positive side of the ledger, with 25 goals for and 19 against.
Last-place CapriCMW, still searching for their first win, leads the penalty parade with 15 PIM.
Nashing it up
Kilrich's Chris Nash leads the early-season scoring parade with 14 points on eight goals and six assists.
Timmy Ho-ho's Josh Savill is right behind with nine goals and four assists for 13 points.
Titanium's Gary MacKellar (seven goals, five assists) and MC's playmaker Jamie Cairns (two goals, 10 assists) are tied with 12 points each.
Also worth mentioning is EDI's Gus Morberg, who has tallied an impressive eight goals and three assists in only two games.
Meanwhile, the Inn's Frank Aucoin is off to another good start, as he has registered three goals and seven assists in only four games as he seeks to defend his WOHL scoring title.
Dainton's Dominance
Tim's Paul Dainton's great week, in which he allowed one goal in two games, including the shutout versus Firth, has him sitting atop the WOHL goalie standings with a 1.83 Goals Against Average.
The Chest's Gerald Tetlichi sits tied for a distant second with a 3.80 GAA, along with a familiar face near the top of the goalie standings, Kilrich's Jim Antonisson.
Dainton also leads the league in wins with four.
The Inn's Paul Husband is tied for second in goalie wins with Gene Johnson of Air North, who has enjoyed good air support from his teammates. Both goalies have tallied three wins apiece.
Tetlichi and Antonisson have each registered two wins in the early going.
