Ciaran Connolly and Justin Carre were just superb in Yukoninfo.com’s 3-1 win over Klondike Business Solutions in over 35 soccer action.
Both players played every minute of the game in a display of stamina, skill and class.
KBS were solid and compact and made it difficult for Yukoninfo.com, but they couldn’t match the quality these two players brought to the game.
Carre’s zeal for the game has soared this year by his sumo wrestling workouts which made him lighter on his feet and added some ballast to his frame as he scored a goal and assisted on another.
Connolly was equally impressive as he assisted a goal and covered every blade of artificial grass on the playing surface.
KBS has a good team on paper and will win games this season if they can restore their fragile confidence.
Captain Phil Jackson scored a contender for goal of the season with a high velocity shot out of the top draw.
Andy Todd picked up the other Yukoninfo.com goals.
Air North ease past
Yukon Brewing
Air North Rangers were efficient in their win over Yukon Brewing, using the time-honoured tradition of getting early goals and closing down the shop, and frustrating the opposition into making mistakes.
This tactic is a lot harder than it seems. You need skillful players with an intimate knowledge of the game and in Franklin Fru, River Walton and Craig Caldwell they have that.
All three of these players scored a goal to bang in the nails that sealed the Yukon Brewing coffin.
Air North play a careful patient possession game, luring the opposition forward and when they are stretched, Air North strike like a cobra.
The sting evident in the expression of Yukon Brewing captain Jason Steele.
Air North ran out 3-1 winners in what turned out to be an easier win than many would have thought before the game.
Co-captain Derek Funk scored again for his team, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome of the game.
Sean Macdonald, however, did try to cheer his teammates up with his impression of Bambi on ice in a lull in play.
It’s looking a lot like
Chieftain’s year
Miles Hume and his crew of young guns were again in sparkling form, as they tore apart Driving Force in a 6-2 win.
It was close early on when energy was high in the Driving Force squad, but the persistent threat of Mark Chandler and Hume for Chieftain proved too much for the beleaguered Driving Force defence.
Driving Force keeper Anthony Price must have thought he was trying to stop a meteor shower as shots rained in on him in the second half.
Captain Hume picked up a hat trick to lead the golden boot race, but he is being closely followed by teammate Chandler who got two.
Wily veteran Guliano Rayo picked up a goal to round out the Chieftain scoring.
Keith Welch and Jesse Koeller got the Driving Force goals.
Chieftain has a perfect 100 per cent winning record going into next week’s games and if someone doesn’t stop them soon, the league might be won in October.
