Mark Chandler had a morning to remember in over 35’s-soccer action, as he led his team Klondike Office Systems to a shocking 4-3 win against league leaders Driving Force.

Chandler scored four goals to crush the hopes of Driving Force, all of them perfectly placed into the corner of the net.

Chandler and Marcelo Gortari were running the midfield, which allowed KOS to direct the flow and rhythm of the game. They were helped by great defensive work by Matt Davidson and Derek Funk.

Driving Force had in fact started well with Roger Hosking getting a couple of goals and Sandy Gross picking up another, but stand-in keeper Travis Banks was the busier of the two goalkeepers and made some excellent saves to ensure that KOS didn’t get out of sight.

Both teams were playing with a short bench, which meant the furious pace of the game was taking a toll on the players. As the final whistle blew, there was a lot gasping for breath.

John serves up
the ‘Main’ course

John Main may be as graceful and agile as a herd of charging giraffes on a frozen lake, but what he lacks in nimbleness, he makes up for in effort and commitment. His first hat trick in the league is a testament to his endeavour, helping his team Yukoninfo.com to rout Air North Rangers 8-2.

Main was a constant threat throughout the game and could have got a couple more if he could shoot straight.

Main’s teamates were also having fun, as they taunted and teased Air North with their energy and slick movement.

Mike Zuccarini got a double, with Ash Jordan, Matt Larsen and River Walton all picking up a goal each.

For Iain Breckenridge, the Air North skipper, it was a chastising experience, as everything they tried seemed to make no difference. He did get a goal, but will have to work out a new strategy so there won’t be anymore mornings like this one. The one thing to hold onto for Air North was that they put up a better show in the second half with Carlos Astorquiza adding to his tally for the year.

Chieftain win nine goal thriller in the last second

In an entertaining and exciting game, in which both teams could have won, Chieftain walked off with the spoils to take all three points.

Matt Hosford was again the man of the match with four goals and a resume of polished passes and pugnacious tackling. He and Sean Macdonald formed an effective partnership in the middle of the park to combat the ever threatening Pepsi players Franklin Fru (two goals) and Jonathan Hawkins (one).

The crowd were enjoying themselves, as they watched these two pairs of titans battle against each other.

The supporting cast were also very good, Hector Lang and Val Shapoval for Chieftain and David Rayo and Stephen Doyle for Pepsi.

The game was tied at 4-4 going into the last minute and a draw was a fair result for the effort put in, but Chieftain saw a chance to win the game and took advantage of some tired defending to round out a 5-4 win.

Kruno Kunovic got the other goal for Chieftain while Jose Farias scored for Pepsi.

Is this the 'Old Timers' league or is there an elder group playing, please?
