Gavin McKenna had a quiet game by his standards as Team Canada downed Latvia 4-0 in Finland today to move on to the semifinals of the U18 World Championships Saturday.

McKenna assisted on Maxim Masse's power play goal 5:08 into the game to give Canada a 1-0 lead.

Ryder Ritchie made it 2-0 Canada at 12:12 of the first.

After a scoreless second period, Porter Martone put Canada up 3-0 with less than 10 minutes left in the third period.

Jett Luchanko, whose speed lives up to his first name, rounded out the scoring for Canada.

Canada outshot Lativa 38-23.

McKenna's stat line was one assist, five shots on goal and +1 with 16:36 of ice time.

He still sits second in the overall points standings with 15 (6 goals, 9 assists), four behind leader James Hagens of the U.S., with a plus-minus of +8.

Canada will have a rematch with Sweden in the semifinal. They beat Sweden 6-3 in the preliminary round, with McKenna leading the way for Canada with two goals, earning him Player of the Game honours.

With the quarterfinal win, Canada is now guaranteed at least a chance to play for a medal at the U18 World Championships.
