Biathlon Yukon holds Yukon Championships

Biathlon Canada held the Yukon Championships last Saturday and Sunday at the range off Grey Mountain Road in Whitehorse.

Biathlon Canada held the Yukon Championships last Saturday and Sunday at the range off Grey Mountain Road in Whitehorse.

Saturday featured a mass start with four bouts of shooting and penalty loops for misses. Twenty-five biathletes competed.

In Saturday's mass start, Mason Parry won the Junior Boys 5 km in a time of 25:28.3.

Logan Tirschmann took the Pursuit 3 km in 19:35.4.

Alex Brown triumphed in the Youth Men's 10 km in a time of 40:14.1.

In the Youth Women's 7.5 km, Isla Hupé took first place in a time of 43:15.2.

Bruce Porter finished first in the Senior Boys 7.5 km in a time of 34:47.8.

Cheyenne Tirschmann came in first in the Senior Girls 7.5 km in 39:35.9.

In the Masters 7.5 km, Brad Heron finished first in a time of 39:56.3.

A sprint event took place on Sunday, with 24 biathletes competing.

Isidore Champagne came in first in the Youth Men's 7.5 in 32:04.1.

Isla Hupé scored a double weekend win in the Youth Women's 6 km in 28:52.9.

Brad Heron was the lone participant in the Master's 6 km, winning with a time of 26:54.1.

Cheyenne Tirschmann again took first place, this time in the Senior Girls 6 km, in 26:48.9.

Cole Germain triumphed in the Senior Boys 6 km in a time of 22:12.2.

In the Junior Boys 3.75 km, Johna Irving-Staley took first in a time of 19:04.3.

Lastly, in the Pursuit 2.4 km Sprint, Logan Tirschmann continued the family dominance, finishing first in 14:11.2.

The Yukon Championships were part of the criteria for the 2022 Canadian National Championships March 11-17, in Prince George, B.C., although winning at the Yukon Championships wasn’t necessary to make the Nationals team.
