Biathlon Yukon continues strong showing at Biathlon Nationals

Members of the Biathlon Yukon team continued their strong showing at the Biathlon Nationals, which wrap up today in Prince George, B.C.

Revised - The Biathlon Yukon team finished their strong showing at the Biathlon Nationals at Prince George, B.C., which wrapped up Thursday.

Cole Germain won gold on Sunday and bronze on Monday in the Senior Boys category. Lydia Brown had the third best shooting results in the Senior girls category Wednesday.

Yukon athletes training in Alberta after high school at the competition included Romeo Champagne, Jake Draper, and Amelie Latour.

Eight athletes travelled from the Yukon including Noah Marnik, Alex Brown, Isidore Champagne, Cole Germain, Lydia Brown, Isla Hupe, Ava Irving-Staley, and Claire MacMillan.

The coaches with the team include Nick Marnik, Ted Hupé, and Rebecca Parnum.

Biathlon Yukon Board Secretary Sophia Marnik was serving as deputy chief of range at the competition.

“We have had a fantastic week down here,” said Marnik.

Here are the results from the relays on the last day of competition on Thursday, in which the competitors skied two legs each:

Biathlon Yukon’s “Purple Hippopotami” team of Cole Germain and Lydia Brown finished a strong fifth out of 32 teams in the Senior Boys/Senior Girls m4/f5 km Single Mixed Relay in a time of 55:03.7.

Meanwhile, Noah Marnik and Isla Hupé, the “Turquoise Gooses”, finished 18th out of 22 teams in the Youth Men/Youth Women m6/f7.5 km Single Mixed Relay in a time of 58:23.3.

In the Junior Men/Junior Women m6/f7.5 km Single Mixed Relay, Romeo Champagne and Ava Irving-Staley of the “Blue Pandas” team combined to finish fifth of eight teams in 55:03.4.

Meanwhile, the “Milk Coloured Mongooses”, Jake Draper and Amelie Latour, finished in seventh in the same race in 56:59.0.

Senior Boys 7.5 km Pursuit:

  1. Cole Germain +43.8 back of the winning time of 28:23.8

Senior Girls 7.5 km Pursuit:

  1. Lydia Brown +11:07.3 back of the winning time of 31:51.1
  2. Claire MacMillan +18:28.2

Junior Men 12.5 km Pursuit:

  1. Romeo Champagne +4:40.8 back of the winning time of 40:30.0
  2. Jake Draper +5:21.3

Junior Women 10 km Pursuit:

  1. Amelie Latour +11:55.2 back of the winning time of 37:19.0

Youth Men 10 km Pursuit:

  1. Noah Marnik +4:45.4 back of the winning time of 32:19.6
  2. Isidore Champagne +7:01.5

Youth Women 7.5 km Pursuit:

  1. Isla Hupé +9:26.9 back of the winning time of 28:12.1
  2. Ava Staley-Irving +12:18.2

Senior Girls 7.5 km Individual:
