Alpine Yukon holds 2022 Yukon Cup; sending three skiers to junior nationals

Alpine Canada held the 2022 Yukon Cup last weekend at Mount Sima in Whitehorse on the Dan's Descent run.

Alpine Canada held the 2022 Yukon Cup last weekend at Mount Sima in Whitehorse on the Dan's Descent run.

A giant slalom ran last Saturday, with Run 1 at 12:30 p.m. and Run 2 at 1:45 p.m.

A slalom took place last Sunday, also with Run 1 at 12:30 p.m. and Run 2 at 1:45 p.m.

Conditions Sunday started with heavy snow, which lifted shortly after it began.

More than 120 athletes raced in the two-day event.

According to Alpine Yukon president Matt Jenner, the 2022 Yukon Cup was a "huge success."

Next week, athletes are off to Big White for the Western Canadian Ski Cross Championship Finals in Kelowna, B.C., followed by the Revelstoke Teck Zone Finals.

Alpine Yukon is also sending three athletes (Annie Heffner, Tori Volmmer and Mackenzie Jenner) to the U16 National Championships this month.

The athlete trio qualified for nationals based on demonstrated skill, over-all performance and coach discretion.

The nationals will take place Mar. 28 to April 1 at the Mount Tremblant Ski Resort in Quebec.
