5+ Hours of Light is the same concept as a 24-hour mountain bike event, but in winter, on snow, on fat bikes. Riders can participate solo or join a team of up to eight people, and do as many laps as you want. A community potluck with food, hot drinks and a fire-heated cook shelter will be provided to warm up between laps.
5+ Hours of Light first began in 2011 and has since steadily grown in popularity. The event was last held in 2021 and typically attracts about 70 fat bikers.
This year’s edition is being co-hosted by Contagious Mountain Bike Club and Cycling Association of Yukon, and is free of charge. All that’s required is a Cycling Association of Yukon annual or single-event membership for $30 to cover insurance and supplies.
Participants will be treated to a fun 10 km flagged course that winds through the forest of Wolf Creek, with scenic river views and rolling single track. Start and finish is at the campground, beginning at 11:06 am and ending at 4:46 pm.

Learn how to host a Yukon cycling event
Cycling Association of Yukon is also hosting a free online information session the week prior about how to host an event in the territory. Sunday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. is the day and time of the session.
The organization regularly hears from people who desire to put on an event but don’t know what it takes, and Cycling Association of Yukon wants to help.
If you’ve ever had an idea for a new Yukon cycling event - maybe a mountain bike Enduro, an organized bikepacking adventure or simply a regular fat bike group ride – join them online and learn about best practices for:
• Communications and marketing • Location, formats and dates • Volunteers and staff • Event sanctioning and insurance • Food and beverages • Emergencies and safety • Taking money and registrations
