The 2022 Meadow Lakes Fall Classic disc golf tourney had another successful turnout this year. 64 people registered for the event.

Tournament Director Josh Paton said the event was "excellent. Lots of people had a really good time. There was some good golf out there, lots of great scores, really nice to see all these familiar faces that come out to the tournaments."

"It was definitely well-attended by some really good disc golfers, as well as some really new players that we haven't seen at the events before."

"We had a tournament ace (hole in one) by Cole Fisher, which was pretty exciting," recalled Paton. "That was pretty good. We didn't see an ace last year, so that's nice to see." Fisher got the ace on Hole 4.

"(We) had a good junior division as well this year with four under-15s so that was pretty cool," said Paton, whose daughter Mara, 15, won the Junior 15 category.

"She hadn't been playing much this year so I think she was quite pleased with herself," said Paton. "She's definitely getting better and it was really nice getting to spend the weekend hanging out with her and playing some disc golf and hanging out with the disc golf family."

"Two of the kids were from Faro," he added. "Faro's starting to have a really cool emerging disc golf scene. Jackson Stavely has been in the tournament the last three years in a row and I'm pretty sure he was eight the first year when he played. It's pretty cool to see him evolving ... he dove into the pond to get my disc. He didn't know it was mine. He was going after his but he got mine back too."

The ladies on the course did well, too.

"I was very impressed," said Paton. "There's a lot of really up and coming ladies at all of the three divisional skill levels. It's always really encouraging to see that. Disc golf is such an inclusive sport, so that's what I think a lot of people really love about it. You can have fun playing at any age, any skill, any fitness level – it doesn't matter – it's a good time. It's very low-impact and fun and simple."

The Fall Classic is the big wrap-up event of the season, but there are a few other events coming up for local disc golfers.

"Every week we play doubles on Sunday mornings and we play all through winter," related Paton.

"As well we'll usually have a fun times Halloween Glow doubles event. That's glow-in-the-dark disc golf and we decorate the baskets and try to have some fun with it.

"And we also have one more week at Meadow Lake. Next Saturday we're going to have Bring Your Own Partners doubles wrap-up round and try and get some people out for one last game of the season."

Tee-off for that event goes Saturday at 6 p.m. at Meadow Lake Golf Course.
