The Yukon female soccer team had an excellent bounce-back Wednesday against P.E.I. after a lopsided loss to Team Ontario Tuesday.
P.E.I.'s Lindsey Smith opened the scoring at the 30-minute mark with a strike from the right side of the net.
Yukon tied it up around the 34-minute mark on an excellent free kick from Taliya Lidley that appeared to bounce off the crossbar. In the subsequent scramble, Lucy Baxter somehow put it home, giving the Yukon girls their first goal of the Games.
The game was tied 1-1 going into the half.
Unfortunately, the Yukoners gave up a goal about two minutes into the second half, giving up a lead to P.E.I. that the Islanders wouldn't relinquish.
P.E.I. added another goal at the 46-minute mark and followed that up with another one in the 53rd minute on a nice little pass out to Lindsey Smith, who stroked the ball into the net past Yukon keeper Kalie Bennett, who was forced to make several good saves in the contest.
Yukon sent in a few subs at that point. It didn't help at first, as they conceded another goal at the 56-minute mark on an excellent strike from Lydia Hamill, making the score 5-1 P.E.I.
Eventually, the Yukon side seemed to be energized by the subs and managed to play the Islanders even the rest of the way, with keeper Bennett making solid saves in the 70th and 77th minutes.
It wasn't enough, as they fell to the Islanders 5-1.
That's it for the Preliminary Round for the Yukoners, who finish third in Pool B. They'll now play the third-place finishers in Pools C and D in the Consolation Round, starting with Saskatchewan Friday at 1 p.m. Yukon time.
