Lillian Strauss

.

It is with great sorrow that the family of Lillian Strauss announce her passing on May 13, 2022.

Lillian came to the Yukon in 1970, where she made a life with Art Penner. She raised her first two children with him, and later remarried to Paul Rogan and raised two more children.

Lillian is survived by her siblings, Sam and Anita Strauss, her children Claire Strauss, Sam Penner, Telek Rogan, and Cain Rogan, and her grandchildren Alice and Levi.

Lillian always said she came to the Yukon because of horses, but quickly became a part of many different parts of Yukon life.

She was one of the first yoga instructors in the Yukon, and was an enthusiastic musician, as a singer, piano player, and drummer.

Lillian was also a passionate volunteer, and could be seen all over town giving a helping hand wherever one was needed. She was a beloved member of the community and made a lasting impression on everyone she met.

A celebration of life will be held on June 4, from 1 - 4PM at Mt. Mac. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Lillian's name to the Victoria Faulkner Women's Centre.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Whitehorse General Hospital for their care and compassion.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, how could we have lost this magical woman? Lillian first came into our lives in the early ‘70s and wowed us all by introducing us to yoga and dance - even the gals from Toronto were captivated by her originality, vitality and energy. Even until now she stepped up the pace at any visual, musical or dance performance with her exquisite visceral, immediate, original response. I am so honoured to have had her influence my life-journey.

Lillian was a wonderful person - a ray of light illuminating any room she entered. She will be greatly missed.

One of the fiercest smiles I ever knew in a person, you will be missed Lillian. Roam free!
