John Charles Adam
June 11, 1950 - January 24, 2024
John Charles Adam passed away peacefully, on January 24th at Whitehorse General Hospital with his family by his side. If you met John and heard any of his stories you knew he was a colourful character, living life to its fullest. If you heard one of his stories 9 times then you understand why he was loved by so many.
One of four Adam boys, John made trouble throughout his childhood in LeSalle, Quebec. John was a skilled carpenter starting his apprenticeship in Montreal working on Expo 67 before moving to the lower mainland, British Columbia where he completed his Red Seal.
He found his way North to Dawson City in the '70s to work restoring buildings for Parks Canada. He fell in love with the long dark-haired Daryl… quite literally falling through a boardwalk and breaking his leg carrying a table to woo her. The couple made a beautiful life together at Henderson Corner having two daughters, Leah and Miranda. John dabbled in Placer Mining over the years and continued to construct buildings around Dawson. He spent his final summers fishing at Ethel and Braeburn lakes and teaching his grandchildren to drive the boat and fish.
John has joined his brother Alan, father Doug, and mother Peg on his final fishing journey. He leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years Daryl, daughters Leah (Noel), and Miranda (Brad), five grandchildren: Brook-Lynn, Payton, Laila, Emmitt and little John John (who lovingly called him grandpa hoho); and two brothers Keith (Lynn) and Chris (Jhona & Deeniell) as well as numerous others whom loved him over his 73 and a half years of life.
Thank you to all the staff at Whitehorse General Hospital, Dr. Sally Macdonald who made his final days comfortable, and St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver for making the last 8 years of his life possible.
A celebration of life for friends and family of John will be held in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Whitehorse General Hospital.
