Franz Bertold (Bert) Doll
.
It is with sadness that we announce Franz Bertold (Bert) Doll of Whitehorse, Yukon, passed away surrounded by his family on May 31, 2022, at the age of 90.
Bert was the loving father of Karen (Darcy Aylwin) and Linda (Jeff Lister), grandfather of Kathryn Aylwin, David Lister and Danielle Lister, brother of Charlotte Nagel (Klause) and Sieginde Haug (Rudi), and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Bert’s wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Betty) preceded him, as did his sister Inge Rittershofer (Herbert) and brother Joseph Doll (Margarethe).
Bert apprenticed in Germany as a machinist making medical equipment. He left Germany at the age of 19 to travel.
His first stop after crossing the Atlantic was Halifax and then on to Montreal. He gradually worked his way across Canada to Alaska working a variety of jobs from shovelling snow to electrician.
He was highly resourceful learning English and picking up skills for the different jobs. During his stay in Whitehorse on his way south, he met Betty and they married in 1959. In 1961 they started their family and Whitehorse remained home.
His determination and confidence continued to serve him well as he made a home for his family and the various jobs he put his hand to.
His cabin at Tagish is a product of that determination and resourcefulness and a great source of pleasure and pride for him. His manners, family focus and purposefulness was an example to all of us.
No service is planned. His family wish to extend special thanks to Doctor Sarah Biss and to the staff and volunteers at Copper Ridge Place for such splendid care. We will always carry his memory in our hearts.

Sorry about your loss. We considered Bert a great co-worker and mentor, as well as a friend.

Karen, Linda & family, please accept our sincere condolences for your loss. Mark's parents (Rick & Darline), Mary & Dean Lee and your mom & dad were the very best of friends for most of their adult lives and Mark always considered Bert & Betty as part of his extended family.
