A Saskatoon woman has won $1 million on a Lotto 6/49 ticket purchased in Watson Lake.

Mary Jane Pilz bought her ticket hoping to win a couple of thousand dollars or more. The draw was made Feb.10.

“I checked the ticket just before starting my shift,” Pilz said Monday.

“I looked at my co-worker and said, ‘what does this say? $10,000? $100,000?’

“Suddenly it clicked that it was $1 million – oh, my God!

“We started dancing around the room. It was a precious moment,” Pilz added.

“I would have been happy if I had won $10,000, but I’ll take a million – I love Lotto 6/49!”

The new winner, who works in Watson Lake, Yukon, said she has a few ideas for her windfall, starting with helping her family.

“Well, first things first: my husband is going to retire!” she said.

“And our children are in university; I’ll give some money to help them out.”

Pilz said she and her husband also plan to visit family members in the Philippines.

“My husband has never been to the Philippines,” she said.

“I’m so happy to be able to show him where I’m from and introduce him to my family.”

Pilz picked up her winning ticket at the Watson Lake Tags store.
