The warmer weather seems to have brought out a contingent of vandals. This time, their targets were approximately 20 vehicles.

Whitehorse RCMP are investigating “a significant number of calls related to vandalism and damage to vehicles from the weekend,” police said Tuesday afternoon.

At 6:30 a.m. last Saturday, police began hearing from members of the public who reported damage to vehicles that had been parked outside overnight in Riverdale.

“The investigating officer also conducted patrols in the area, located other vehicles with damage, and made the owners of
these vehicles aware,” police said.

“The number of vehicles impacted is now 20. Most of the damage involves spray paint, with one vehicle also having damage to a tire.”

Based on surveillance footage, officers believe that two people may have been involved in vandalizing the vehicles, and are working to identify the individuals in the video.

Police also want to hear from witnesses or anyone who has further surveillance footage from the areas of Lewes Blvd., Teslin Rd., Klondike Rd., Ross Rd., Hart Cres., Peel Rd., or other parts of Riverdale that show suspicious behaviour.

The time period they’re interested in is about 11 p.m. last Friday to 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

“Anyone with surveillance footage that shows suspects or who may have witnessed these acts of vandalism is encouraged to contact Whitehorse RCMP,” police said.

Anyone with information about this investigation, including vandalism not yet reported to police, is encouraged to contact police at 667 5555.
