The Yukon will receive approximately $1.4 billion in major federal transfers this year – which is still the lowest of the three Canadian territories.

According to a document from the federal Department of Finance, the Yukon is slated to be receiving $1.427 billion for the 2024-25 fiscal year, which will begin April 1.

That compares to $1.326 billion for the current fiscal year.

By comparison, Nunavut will be gifted $2.178 billion while the Northwest Territories is listed at $1.775 billion.

Most of the territorial budgets in all three jursidictions are based on federal money, a fact that most Canadians are likely not aware of.

Federal money for the current fiscal year translates to $29,585 per Yukoner, the federal data show.

The Yukon government is expected to present its budget on March 7 as the legislature reconvenes for the first time since late 2023.

$1,400,000,000.00
Big number.
And yet, even with that largess, our health care system is amongst the worse in Canada
We rank only behind NT and NUT in terms of doctors per capita.
Our general hospital has 60 less beds that the original WGH did back in the 1999s.
But sure, let’s build gymnastics centres…..

@Patti Eyre based on the fact we live beyond our means, living large on the money southerners pay, and not being aware of it. Look at the total for all three territories gonna get noticed at some point.

Is no reporter going to ask why we are getting less than those other 2 territories?

“a fact that most Canadians are likely not aware of”

I love that, it’s an opinion about what most Canadians are not aware of, based on what?
