SHARING THE LATEST – Premier Sandy Silver (left) and Dr. Jesse Kancir, the acting medical officer of health while Dr. Catherine Elliott vacations, take part in this morning’s COVID-19 update in Whitehorse.
The Yukon government will begin offering a second COVID-19 booster shot on a limited basis beginning Apr. 12.
The Yukon government will begin offering a second COVID-19 booster shot on a limited basis beginning Apr. 12.
The shots will be available to people 70 years of age and older, as well as people with compromised immune systems, Premier Sandy Silver announced during a COVID-19 briefing this morning.
That was the major news out of the session – the first in three weeks.
People in congregate living settings will be eligible as well.
In his opening comments, Silver said the Yukon is “in a good place” right now when it comes to COVID-19.
“We’re in a stable and manageable situation,” he said, reiterating a turn of phrase he used almost two weeks ago in a media scrum at the Yukon legislature.
Dr. Jesse Kancir filled in for Dr. Catherine Elliott, the acting chief medical officer of health, who is on vacation. He said the decision to offer the booster shots follows federal health advice.
The boosters will be offered to larger segments of the population as that federal advice recommends, he said.
Kancir acknowledged “there is a lot of COVID-19 activity in the territory,” although numbers have improved somewhat in recent days.
He said the testing positivity rate is due partially to that high spread in the communities, but might be exaggerated as well by low testing rates.
In January, the government and public health officials heavily restricted access to PCR testing. There is also no provision for people using rapid testing kits at home to report the results.
“Levels will be high for some weeks to come,” Kancir predicted.
He told reporters the data aren’t sufficient for him to pinpoint whether the Yukon is in the midst of a sixth wave, as is being reported in other parts of Canada.
Kancir also announced there is another outbreak of COVID-19 at the Copper Ridge Place continuing care facility.
Measures are being taken to address that situation, he said.
Both Kancir and Silver said there are no plans to begin waste water analysis as a measure of COVID surveillance.
The Yukon and New Brunswick are the only two jurisdictions in Canada that aren’t using the technique.
However, Silver said he doesn’t see the need for it, since it has never been used here.
Kancir agreed with that analysis.
He also touched on the question of natural immunity, which is becoming a topic of mounting interest amongst the public.
While it’s an important consideration, Kancir said current data and research indicate that natural immunity is wildly variable among individuals, and can’t be reliably predicted nor relied on.
That’s one of the main reasons why vaccination continues to dominate the conversation, Kancir said.
It’s simply a case of there being enough research data to establish at least general timelines of when the effects of vaccinations begin to wane and wear off.
“There’s too much uncertainty,” he said.
In response to another question by a reporter, Kancir also said it’s too soon to establish whether COVID-19 vaccinations will become an annual thing, as is the case with influenza.
“I simply don’t know,” he said. “We will continue to follow the evidence.”
There are 77 active cases, Kancir said. (See earlier case data below.)

Hey Todd: Who are the drug pushing doctors?? I really want to know. I mean.. REALLY. I can't pry a pain killer out of my doctor with a crowbar. I don't want a lot..10 - T4s? or a couple of hydromorphone time release? 5? 10 mg? You know what i get? I get ice/heat, pillow, in bed, rest. AND the ever popular drug free pain management system. I know what you are saying..i had a friend who broke a lot of bones in her body, her back..in a dirt bike accident. She became addicted to pain killers, and when the Dr.s tried to wean her off them, she bulked..she liked her drugs now. Everyone in the family blamed the Drs. What was their choice? They didn't have one. A pain free course in Yoga just would not have helped her. It's your fault, people like me can't get a PK.. they are well aware that a segment of the population see's them as pill pushers. At the same time, someone has to go and ask them for those drugs. People like you have made the Doctors stingy with their prescriptions.

Our chief medical officer of health hasn't got a degree in immunology. You should e-mail her that same comment, see how she responds. You make the mistake of overestimating the intelligence of doctors. Most of them rote memorized everything in medical school, only to go on to become glorified ghetto tier drug pushers who lack critical thinking and are terrified of rocking the boat lest they lose their license. Surgeons, I respect, but your average doctor like the one who they've put in charge is really not all that special, or beyond reproach, especially when you consider the nature and quality of Dr. Elliot's undergrad and post graduate work, which literally contradicts her own policies on masking. I think you can do better than to simply insult other people's intelligence, I think you're probably smart enough to refute them, and to provide them with evidence that will back up your claims.

I actually applaud the government for providing us with the litmus test. Who knew we would get to test all of our peers and fellow citizens' will, honorability, liability, impulsiveness and just generally weakmindedness of the populace before it hit the fan. Now I know exactly who will have my back when the lights go out and the grocery stores are empty. I know exactly who I can count on. Looks like literally 90 % of people are easy pickings and are not gonna make it without government gibs and literal mind control brainwashing propaganda tactics. It sucks we've had to go through this, but up until now even I didn't realize how many incredibly weak and impressionable people exist around us. I haven't dropped any curse-blooded friends but I keep my distance, and all of my pureblooded friends have come to the same realization.

New Zealand has a very high vaccination rate across all age groups.
The Covid infection rate data are notable for several reasons:
Firstly the obvious one – during the most recent Covid wave there was a much lower infection rate in the unvaccinated, compared with those that had been given one, two or three doses of vaccine. What’s more, this isn’t a small effect – over the period shown approximately:
10% of the triple vaccinated in New Zealand were infected.
14% of the single vaccinated were infected.
An astounding 18% of the double vaccinated were infected.
Yet only 3% of the unvaccinated appear to have been infected.
The order of the effect is unexpected – for some time in the U.K. the highest case rates have been found in the triple vaccinated, with case rates in the single and double jabbed much lower. In New Zealand the highest rates are seen in the double vaccinated.
The data for cases in the double dosed appear to have an earlier peak than seen in the data for the unvaccinated, single jabbed and triple jabbed.
The fall from peak cases to the most recent data point is also interesting. Case rates in the unvaccinated, single dosed and the double dosed have all fallen approximately 45% since their respective peaks, however, case rates in the triple vaccinated have only fallen approximately 20% since their peak.
This is rather concerning, as it suggests that we might find that the boosted population maintain a viral reservoir for Covid, ensuring that case rates take much longer to fall to trivial levels and hindering attempts to get society back to a post-Covid normal.
An informative graph of the data is found at the link.

Been a conservative my entire darn life, and I got something to tell you folks. This stuff about refusing to take the vaccine? It's a buncha bologna.
Now I'm no doctor but I have seen a lot of shenanigans go down in this country. I've seen many healthcare systems being proposed over the years, many vaccination campaigns being conducted and many policies implemented by all sorts of people both on the provincial and the federal level.
Guess what? It doesn't matter that the vaccination campaign has been kind of hectic and all over the place. It doesn't matter there have been some concerns about the safety, this is a common theme in this kind of situation, it is to be expected. The fact of the matter is that this is about minimizing the death toll and building herd immunity as soon as conceivably possible. The legislators and state officials introducing new laws which effectively restrict our freedoms might be overstepping their authority, but at the end of the day, they mean well and want to help the folks that really fear the virus and want to be shielded from this deadly pestilence.
Sure, big pharma might be profiting from all this, but guess what? They're private companies, this is how they make money and they can produce vast quantities of the vaccine like no one else can. The reason why they have been able to produce so much of it so quickly stems from the fact that they have the facilities and the ability to test their products so efficiently.
So listen, I don't like big pharma that much either. It kinda sucks. That's what I think. But we can't stoop to such science-denialist tactics and such an anti-Canadian attitude. It's bad optics and it's bad for our country. Our prime minister himself has even endorsed the vaccines. At the end of the day, this is our patriotic duty to get vaccinated. We need to do this in order to contain this pandemic, but also to support certain key investment strategies within our private sector.

Then why are you still forcing medical experiments onto the population. I don't have a choice. No one in town will hire me, they just tell me I'm overqualified. I'm not a sandwich artist I'm a registered professional and I would like to get back to working in the field I've dedicated my life to (not to disparage service staff in any way, I did it when I was younger and have a lot of respect for them). I'm just asking to be let on a plane so that I can fly out to camp, and am being told the answer is no. I've frequently flying back and forth to work for the last two years and never contracted covid. I have not crossed the Yukon border in 3 years time, I did not spread the virus into the territory. I was deemed essential and had to work tonnes of overtime filling in for people who were in quarantine. Others sat around the whole time collecting their CERB bucks. I received zero. Now I'm being told that I don't qualify for EI, can't collect welfare, and cannot enter a shelter for food or a place to stay. What am I going to eat when my savings run out? Where am I going to sleep? I've gone from being a fit and healthy and happy person to chronically malnourished, lost most of of muscle mass, nearly financially ruined, for what? Because I dared to assert my basic human right to refuse unwanted medical treatments. My life is anything but stable right now Mr. Silver and all you have to do is let me get on an airplane and go back to the bush where I'll be as far away from Covid 19 as humanly possible. He'd rather me be on the streets, probably thinks I deserve it for being so 'selfish'. I know that I'm not alone on this either, there are others like myself, all extremely pissed off, like awakened ancient Teutonic warrior spirit kind of pissed off.

Case rates per hundred thousand are extraordinarily low for both the vaccinated and unvaccinated groups. Let's look at the 40-49 age group because its pretty much in the middle of “too young to care” and “so old you might die”. Middle aged if you will.
Cases per hundred thousand:
Vaccinated: 3,957
Unvaccinated: 955
Ok, well let’s disregard that. It clearly shows getting vaccinated somehow makes you MORE likely to get Covid, but that may be due to behavioral changes between the two groups. Unvaccinated aren't allowed on airplanes in some places, so they can't be the ones who are catching it and spreading it internationally. Let's move on.
Overnight hospital stays:
Vaccinated: 6.0 (6/100,000)*100 = 0.006%
Unvaccinated: 7.7 (7.7/100,000)*100 = 0.0077%
Likelihood the vaccine will save a 40-49 year old from a hospital stay: 0.0077-0.006 = 0.0017%
Wow, that's rather low. It's nearly immeasurable, but there is a decent sample size, so let's go with it.
Death within 28 days of infection:
Vaccinated: 0.2 (0.2/100,000)*100 = 0.00002%
Unvaccinated: 0.3 (0.3/100,000)*100 = 0.00003%
Likelihood the vaccine will save a 40-49 year old's life: 0.00001%
What?! This has to be a joke right? Keep in mind, this is just Covid. If the vaccine increases your odds of developing cancer or heart disease by more than 0.00001% then the vaccinated have played themselves, since they're more likely to end up in hospital from overall causes if this is the case.

What absolute bollocks. There is clear and compelling evidence from multiple studies that natural immunity is effective, durable, and (seemingly) stronger than vaxx-induced "immunity". The medical bureaucracy is like oxycontin pushers -- they just can't help but prescribe more.
As for requiring vaccines to work in "health care settings", almost 100% of every worker in that field has either been vaccinated or has natural immunity due to previous exposure. What is the point of continuing the vaxx mandate charade?

Preclinical studies of COVID-19 mRNA vaccine BNT162b2, developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, showed reversible hepatic effects in animals that received the BNT162b2 injection. Furthermore, a recent study showed that SARS-CoV-2 RNA can be reverse-transcribed and integrated into the genome of human cells.
It is worth investigating if the liver cells also present the vaccine-derived SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which could potentially make the liver cells targets for previously primed spike protein reactive cytotoxic T cells. There have been case reports on individuals who developed autoimmune hepatitis after BNT162b2 vaccination. To obtain better understanding of the potential effects of BNT162b2 on liver function, in vivo models are desired for future studies.
The safety profile of BNT162b2 is currently only available from short-term clinical studies. Less common adverse effects of BNT162b2 have been reported, including pericarditis, arrhythmia, deep-vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, intracranial hemorrhage, and thrombocytopenia. To better understand mechanisms underlying vaccine-related adverse effects, clinical investigations as well as cellular and molecular analyses are needed.

"Kancir said current data and research indicate that natural immunity is wildly variable among individuals, and can’t be reliably predicted nor relied on."
Natural immunity does not exist in people that never had covid but think they did because they tested positive using an extremely flawed diagnostic laboratory technique.
Natural immunity also does not exist in people who have had their immune system altered in a detrimental way.
Natural immunity does however exist in people that have recovered from an illness naturally.
