The RCMP’s Specialized Response Unit is asking the public to come forward with any information related to possible online luring and sexualized assaults targeting female youth in the Whitehorse area between January and March 2023.

In August, 22-year-old Parneet Singh of Whitehorse was charged with sexual interference and sexual assault related to incidents which occurred between January and March in the Whitehorse area.

It’s believed social media applications such as Snapchat were used to communicate with underage girls, who received offers of alcohol. The name “Neet” may have been used in those communications.

Anyone who may have information is being asked to contact the Whitehorse RCMP or Specialized Response Unit at 667-5555.

“If you or anyone who know has been a victim or a witness to this or any other sexualized assault investigation, the following resources are available in Whitehorse,” police said Thursday. Those are:

• SART: the Yukon’s Sexualized Assault Response Team (SART) provides a safe and confidential network of services that focus on needs and choices.

SART is available to people of all of sexualized assault of all genders, ages, and sexual orientation who have survived a sexualized assault, to guide the process or be an ally. Phone: 1-844-967-7275.

• 24/7 Sexualized Assault Support Line: 1-844-967-7275.

• Victim Services: the territorial branch provides services and help for victims dealing with a range of different crimes, regardless of whether the victim has reported the crime, a charge has been laid, or there has been a conviction.

Email: victim.services@yukon.ca or phone 667-8500, toll-free: 1-800-661-0408, extension 8500.

• Third party reporting: this is an option for victims of sexualized assault who have made the informed decision not to report the crime directly to the RCMP, but may want to share details of their case anonymously.

It’s available to women, men and gender-diverse people. For more information, contact Victim Services or the Sexualized Assault Support Line.

“It is often difficult to speak about sexualized assaults,” the RCMP said.

“Police work closely with partner agencies like Victim Services and SART to help victims get support in ways that make them safe and comfortable.

“You are not alone, and there are people and organizations who want to hear and listen.”
