Many Whitehorse residents might be surprised to learn there was a power outage at about 4 a.m today.

Sections of the downtown went out suddenly, along with the Granger, Copper Ridge and McIntyre neighbourhoods.

ATCO Electric Yukon was quick to post on social media about the outage.

“We are currently experiencing an unplanned outage affecting some customers in downtown Whitehorse,” the company wrote.

“Our crews are actively responding, but we anticipate restoration efforts may take a few hours.

“We are also experiencing a separate outage impacting customers in Copper Ridge and Granger. Crews are investigating, but outage cause and restoration time are currently unknown.”

Most of the power was restored within 90 minutes.

There is no word from ATCO as to the cause.
