Whitehorse RCMP continue to investigate a three-car collision in Porter Creek on Friday that left one woman dead and a man injured.
Whitehorse RCMP continue to investigate a three-car collision in Porter Creek on Friday that left one woman dead and a man injured.
At about 10:15 Friday morning, Porter Creek residents gathered around the intersection of Pine Street and 12th Avenue to watch as RCMP, Emergency Medical Services and the Whitehorse Fire Department tended to the scene of the collision.
A red 1993 Toyota Paseo proceeding north down Pine Street was struck on the driver's side by a 2008 grey Kia Sportage travelling east on 12th Avenue as the two vehicles simultaneously reached the intersection, police said.
The Kia spun around and hit a westbound grey 2006 Dodge pickup that was stopping to turn left onto Pine from 12th.
The sole occupant of the Toyota, a 33-year-old woman, was extricated from her car using the jaws of life.
She was then taken to Whitehorse General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. RCMP are not yet releasing her name.
The 38-year-old male in the Kia was also taken to the hospital where he was treated for soft tissue damage and released. He had no passengers.
The driver and passenger of the pickup were treated on site for their injuries.
Police do not believe alcohol to be a factor, but are considering speed and traffic control devices, such as stop signs, in their investigation.
The RCMP are thanking the citizens who assisted at the scene and are reminding all drivers to obey the posted speed limit and all traffic control devices. The use of seat belts is mandatory by law.
Anyone with information on Friday's collision is asked to contact the RCMP.
